Hotel is in a nice location, prices competitive for London area. Travelled with friends for one night stay. Had excellent evening meal in hotel & breakfast next morning. Rooms o.k but like other reviews they need a makeover. Hotel was very well heated throughout. Good sized swimming pool with gym & cafe. Would stay again. Staff were very good.
Great position but needs a makeover

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The car park when we arrived was very busy due to a function so we ended up on the grass despite there being spaces reserved for VIPs. The room was ok. Tatty in places but had all the facilities we needed - tv, tea and coffee, safe, hairdryer, iron etc.. The toilet took an age to fill and the handle was loose but the towels were great. The duvet was strangely lumpy and the pillows were virtually nonexistent! The breakfast was great with lots of choice of hot and cold. Continental and cooked. Gluten free toast was provided when requested and also poached eggs. The male cleaning staff could do with some customer training as they were quite surly and seemed to view guests as an inconvenience. The main selling point for us was the location as it was a short walk to town, to the river and to the park. We would return once the refurbishment has been done.
Worst experience ever

Do not stay here. It's run down and they clearly take no pride in that place or how they treat people. We got there before 2 andThey gave us a room with LOUD banging pipes and water coming out of the shower. So loud and so much water that I thought someone was already in the room taking a shower when we finally got to the room. How could the person cleaning the room not report it or how was that room even in commission?! Also we were their first. Right at check in time so why didn't they just give us another room? Not only didn't they. They left us standing there while the nice maintenance man tried to ask for us of there was anything else. Then some sort of alarm went off and we were ignored some more. The girl at the desk was over the top rude and told me we can't have a different room and they won't cancel the room because then "she would be out 90 pounds" have you ever heard something so ridiculous?! So they were just going to steal our money if we didn't want the loud room with running water with the maintenance man in it taking tiles out of the wall. Finally the maintenance man got them to admit there was an empty room but it was just a twin. So why would we pay more for a twin as they said the room was more expensive for some reason. They didn't even send out the real manager so obviously they don't care about customers. Read all the other recent reviews. They are the same as mine. Terrible place. Terrible service. Nothing they say in response to this will matter as they had every opportunity make it ok than to just shrug and tell us no room and try to keep our money. Thankfully they didn't get to keep the money. But trust me they tried when she told me it was past two and she wasn't going to do anything about it as we refused the room with the maintenance man working in it. Worst staff ever. Except for the maintenance man. Promote him. He understands customer service and definitely takes pride in his work.
Never again - will try hotel next door next time

We just had 3 nights in this hotel. I thought it would be a chance to relax but it was not relaxing at all.
When we first arrived at the hotel, the corridor to our room stunk of cannabis to the point where it was that strong we maybe thought the hotel were growing it. Each night we smelt cannabis, the 2nd night was outside the front of the hotel and the 3rd night it was back in the corridor near our room.
We then went out and had a lovely meal and a pint in the local pub, The Roebuck. Highly recommend if you are in the area, it was the only highlight of the trip.
Upon arrival back at the hotel, walking down the corridor it was obvious that there was someone lying on the floor. It was a woman who had passed out drunk on the floor outside her room which was unfortunately next to ours. She had clearly been there for some time before we came but perhaps the hotel staff were ignoring the situation or don't pay enough attention to the security cameras. After a few minutes of trying to help her, the receptionist/bar server came down to try and help her into the room (this proves that they do have cameras) As he approached the woman told me that he was the one who was giving her alcohol. If this is true, the staff at this hotel should know better not to keep serving someone alcohol to let them get in this state. Anything could have happened....
In the room, the wifi was basically non existent. It comes on for a second and then drops out. They should not advertise that they have free wifi in the rooms. It does however work ok in the bar area.
The next day I put the do not disturb sign on the door while I got ready to go out. This is where I found that the house keeper clearly doesn't understand English as whilst I was in the bath she invited herself into the room despite having the do not disturb sign. I had to shout at her to get out. Who wants this to happen to them in a supposedly 4 star hotel?? About half an hour later I got a call to the room from house keeping asking if they can clean the room. I told them no and I expected to be left alone.
You can also forget about having a lie in in this hotel, especially on the day you are checking out. At 8:30am the house keeper tried to get in our room. We told her no and to come back later as check out is 11am. Obviously she cannot understand English because not 5 minutes later she tried again - yet again, I do not expect this in a "4 star" hotel. We tried to go back to sleep but surprise surprise at 9am she comes again. This time we had put the do not disturb sign on the door which was yet again ignored (probably doesn't understand the meaning of this) stressed and tried, we tried to enjoy the last couple of hours but at 9:40 the fire alarm went off. No one took any action on this and the staff seemed to ignore it and just turned the alarm off. Who knows what happened there.
Overall i will not be back here unless I had no other option. I will try the hotel next door as that looks lovely and grand compared to this shabby hotel.
Unbelievably horrific experience

Room that we had booked had a horrendous noise and running water coming from the bathroom pipes. I explained this to the reception who came across very rude. Maintenance came to check the room with me and was very helpful in agreeing this room was not suitable. I was asked to look at another room which was occupied the fire alarm then went off and we politely requested a refund so we could stay elsewhere and the receptionist was again out right rude this time refusing to refund us at all disgusting behaviour.
