We are long time loyal Marriott customers and are usually pleased with the hotels we stay at but this was really a pleasant surprise. This hotel and the property is beautiful. We were upgraded to a top floor suite with a spectacular view and it was just beautiful. I can't say enough about the check in experience! I believe her name was Jennifer and she went out of her way to let us know about the property and what we could do in the area. This was a truly great value for the price of this room. We will definitely be back!

Our group has been traveling the same time each year for a conference in Clearwater. Assorted members of our group have been there for approximately 5 to 15 years. I'm the designated reviewer for this group review.
Last year's renovations are completed so the rooms and facilities are up to date. There are newer fancier hotels in the area that are closer to the beach and in the center of town. We've visited them but haven't felt the need to change. The Marriott's restaurant and bars have good food and drink. Just down the boardwalk are restaurants and shops. Jet skiing is available. The pool area is clean and spacious. There is easy transportation into town or the beach.
The real reason we keep coming back to the Marriott is for the people. Some have been the same people for many years.
I'll start by the pool bar. Kimmie at the outside bar has treated us well for years and continues to do so! She is the best. STAN was sorely missed this year. His humor, service and taking care of our group (lost phones, lost wallets, and at times lost souls) was greatly appreciated year in and year out. Melissa and Dori were phenomenal with their service and dealing with our group. We hope the meatballs were enjoyable. There were two young (relative to us) men working outside who were great with their service, but we didn't get their names.
At the inside bar, Rick is a show unto himself. His quick wit and smooth vocals are always entertaining. Everyone else there was also great (young women with the glasses and "future mom" were a little unsure of our group's ROOM 525 policy, but they warmed up to us).
The general hotel staff was great. Debra P., the front office manager and her staff, made sure everything from check in to check out went smoothly. Lara was all smiles every day. There was another woman whose name we did not get who greeted us every morning with a wave, a smile, and a cheery "good morning." She is a little older than Lara and has reddish, brownish hair. We want to acknowledge her as well. There was an overnight front desk man who was a great late night help, especially for finding bottled water and forgotten keys.
The Bellhop Staff is a great first impression. We wish we could remember all their names. Wilmer is the happiest guy in the world!!! That guy is perpetual sunshine.
The house keeping staff kept the rooms perfectly and didn't wake our late sleepers.
Lastly, Michael B. the visiting AGM from Kentucky was omnipresent. He was in the lobby, the restaurant in the morning, the pool area in the afternoon, the bar at night. He would always stop for a brief chat to check how things were going or to talk golf. You'd see him pitching in at all areas. Maybe it was just that he needed to keep an eye on us!
I know this is more like a reference letter than a review of the hotel, but sometimes it's the people that make the location. So much so that we made an effort to get names to mention here.

We ended up booking a trip to Clearwater last minute after a hurricane ruined our cruise plans. I'm so happy we ended up at the Marriott Sand Key. The staff was friendly, hotel rooms were spacious and the view on the bay was amazing!

Beautiful reception area and checked in by a lady who was professional to her finger tips but still very friendly.
Rooms have recently been refurbished and they are so comfortable and well designed. Housekeeping was of the highest standard - every single window blind was dust free, you could not fault any area of the rooms. Dinner was delicious, all steaks were perfectly cooked and of the highest standard with my New York Strip being the best I have ever tasted. Cocktails were AMAZING - the key lime pie has to be an all time favourite. The ambience of the restaurant with the live singers made for a memorable evening and Eva looking after us (plus the senior staff), should all receive medals for their wonderful customer service.
Breakfast was good - an excellent omelette but if I had to pick holes, I felt the buffet was a little lacking at 10.30am but this could have been down to the hotel’s large occupancy and everyone coming down to eat before us.
We stayed here six years ago and I wrote “something was missing”. Whatever it was, it has most certainly been found!

We checked in on a Thursday and stayed two nights until Saturday mid day. This property was ideal for the purpose of our trip which was to relax, unwind and enjoy some beautiful scenery with our two young children. The hotel grounds and our room were beautiful and clean and the views from our room and the entire property were fabulous. Although we did not eat at the hotel there are plenty of great options at the hotel and also lots to choose from in walking distance of the hotel. We opted to check out a few local restaurants and we also did a day trip to the local John's Pass area. We utilized the pool, jacuzzi, and children's splash park area. All were great even though the pool and splash area water was a bit too cold. There are also great fire pits to sit around and enjoy a drink. The best part of our stay was the staff! Ryan the bellman and all the bell staff were so friendly and Dylan the front desk associate who checked us in was also extremely friendly and knowledgeable. An excellent stay overall. We'll be back!
