Quiet island off the main road

We stayed for three nights at this boutique hotel. It boasts a nice pool area with a bar. The room's bathroom with shower was large and had a glass roof. While there was an AC unit in the room; there was no remote to operate it; alternatively there was a fan, which worked.
The internet was down for the four days of our stay and, therefore, we only were able to communicate with the outside world with good old text messaging.
Breakfast was served and staff was very helpful.

A gem in the middle of the road

La Merced can be a little bit noisy and messy but when you get into Cocos hotel boutique is like getting into another world.
Hotel decoration is out of this world, the whole hotel is decorated to perfection with good taste, handmade colorful paintings and designs, plants all over the place, giving a special nature touch to the whole hotel.
Outstanding customer service from each and every person in this hotel, especially from Lara and our brazilian friend Diogo Bittencourt.
Thank u guys! We totally recommend this hotel to anybody coming to this city.

Glad we stayed there!

We hadn't expected at first to spend five days in La Merced, but in the end, we are happy we did. There were enough things to do and see in the town, in nearby San Ramon, and on tours in the area downstream to fill the days, and the late afternoon/evening relaxation by the pool or in our incredibly spacious room overlooking the tropical vegetation all made the time fly by. The huge bathroom was pretty luxurious, but the hot water ran out before we got near enough water in the jacuzzi to make it useable. The huge bed was super comfortable. And we'd have given a ransom in other hotels for even a third of the closet and drawer space that this place offered. The meals in the dining room were delightful. The breakfast bar was more than adequate and the friendly service (our favorites were kitchen supervisor Doris and girl-for-all-manner-of-tasks Jacqueline (sp.?) was cheerful, though sometimes slow. The place was well kept up, clean and tidy. Oddly enough, one key ingredient in two of their four "specialty drinks" at the bar was out of supply, so we had to settle for the remaining two, one of which required a fresh coconut. It was harvested with a long pole from a tall tree next to the pool. The thing fell into the pool, much to the amusement of everyone watching. When it drifted over to our side, Jacqueline fished it out with a skimmer and proceeded to make our drink. The stuff of happy memories.
We got used to taking mototaxis everywhere, and never had a problem. Remember to book tours to places like the Nature Preserve early, as last-minute deals don't always materialize. When our Spanish was inadequate to communicate our questions or wishes at the front desk, we could count on their connecting us to the hotel proprietor, who was in Lima, for a friendly chat in English.
All in all, we were happy with our stay at Cocos. A word for light sleepers, however: don't be surprised if a macaw begins croaking (ugly sound!) at daybreak. We slept with the windows wide open, and its sound was hard to ignore!
