Not Much Available Due To The Floods

If you find this review helpful, please give it a thumbs up ...Thank you

We called while on the road for a place to stay in Orange, TX. This was one of the few places with rooms available in the area.

Many families are living in area hotels that lost their homes during the recent floods. As a matter of fact, the precious lady at the front desk, Anita, lost her home and is living at this hotel. After all shes been thru, she still maintains a good attitude.

The only room available was a handicap room on the first floor with 2 queen beds. Not exactly what I wanted but after 12 hours of driving, what you want gets thrown out the window and you focus on what you need...Room 103. Priced high but what do you expect due to demand

See photos .. Beds were well used and sagging.

Breakfast bar was good. Everything clean and a decent selection for a free breakfast.

Horrible-nonexistent wi-fi, uncaring staff, overall bad experience

I stayed at the Comfort Inn on Hwy 62 in Orange TX from 9/8/2017 through 9/11/2017. I was supposed to stay a full 9 nights, but could not stand the hotel that long and checked out early. I had my doubts when I checked in due to the location--right on a busy interstate and facing a Church's chicken drive-through window and due to the general dowdy appearance of the lobby. But the front desk guy at check-in (can't remember his name, but he was a larger fellow with blonde hair) was very friendly and I knew it was the only room available close to my mother's home (which had flooded during Hurricane Harvey). The front desk clerk warned me that there was no housekeeping because the folks hadn't returned since the storm. He said I would need to ask for replacement towels, etc. I was there to help my elderly mother with clean out and inventory, but also needed to work in the evenings. The rugs/carpets were not up to my standards of clean and the work table in the room was very small. Nevertheless, I spread out my things and got organized to sleep and work in the room for 9 days. The traffic noise and the smell from the drive-through were significant. I put on my sound machine to be able to sleep.
The next day, I requested another table be put in my room, as I did not have the space I needed to work on the very small square table allotted. I was promised by Ricardo, a very helpful front desk clerk that he would find one and place it in my room by the time I returned that evening. When I did return, exhausted and facing several hours of work on my computer, the elevator did not work (I was on the 3rd floor) and the table wasn't in my room. I figured the elevator had broken prior to the table being placed in my room. I went back down and asked the front desk person when the elevator might be fixed. She said in a very rude tone "I think he's got bigger priorities right now than the elevator." I said "who is 'he'"? and she said "the manager." I said "this is a hotel, the elevator is pretty important. What other things?" and she informed me things such as getting the housekeeping people back and getting the hotel back in order since the storm. (Which begs the question—why had it opened at all? Lots of hotels had not.) A man next to me asked where he could get ice and was told in a rude tone that there was a convenience store nearby, that "they" had broken all the ice machines in the hotel. I can't remember this woman's name but she was close to middle-aged and had short blonde hair cut in a bob. I went back up the 3 floors and started to try to work. The internet is NOT high speed, it was impossible to type without waiting for the lag time and when I finally tested the speed, after thinking something was wrong with my laptop, it was pulling in less than 1 mbps, not the 12 advertised. I couldn't work. After 3 days of trying to work in that environment (because I had moved in with LOTS of stuff and wanted to give it a chance), I waited until the minute the elevator was fixed (I literally sat and watched and waited on the elevator guy to tell me he was through & it was fixed), checked out and brought down my computer, extra monitor, ice chest, luggage, etc. and checked out. I was told by the manager, Alex, that it was a very bad time for my stay and he recommended I check the Best Western or La Quinta nearby. I informed him, as he already no doubt knew, that there were no rooms due to evacuees staying in hotels while displaced. I voiced my displeasure in my overall experience. In spite of this, I was charged the full $112 plus taxes for a total of $386.76 for 3 nights in a hotel with no housekeeping, no elevator, no ice machine, no internet and which was noisy and dirty. This was a $50/night hotel, at best. The hotel should never have been opened for business and it should not be listed as a Choice hotel. OR, a serious discount should be applied to everyone's bill. This is an example of pure greed, knowing that "FEMA" may pay for displaced persons' hotel rooms (that was what was being said everywhere). I, however, just came to stay as a regular guest and was paying full price so I could be of use to my elderly mother and I wanted and EXPECTED a clean and quiet place to clean up after a day of hard manual labor, and to be able sleep and to work. The manager did nothing when I voiced complaints and my email to the complaints department of Choice Hotels website went unanswered. If I could have given this facility no stars, I would have. I guess the 1 star is deserved for the breakfast and the easy access to the freeway when you’re ready to escape.

Don't even think about it.

I've seen better urban flop houses. This place is truly revolting. Get beyond the lobby and it's a pig pen. Stained carpets, broken fixtures. The room was disgusting. Stank of mold. Stains everywhere. Feeble and rusted room a/c. This place should be condemned and demolished.

Room was shabby, we were very disappointed! CS usually is much better than this!

Curtis at the front desk was very nice & made us feel very welcome or we would have left. We were very disappointed to find a CS in this condition! The carpet was filthy & the toilet rocked back & forth. This hotel should not carry the name Comfort Suite in this condition!

Very nice hotel. Front desk staff is nice, efficient, friendly, well dressed and helpful. Rooms are clean, updated, comfortable and attractive. Bed linens are very comfortable and the bath linens are very soft and fluffy. The only problem that I wish to mention is... You can't turn on the bathroom light without turning on the vent fan, and the fan is very loud and annoying.
