What People are saying
Lovely people
xiamen78on 03/10/2017 02:13We started our tour at this little hotel. All together they had like 12 rooms.. everything was clean, BUT really not in best shape. Towels were ripped and rooms were very basic. Bathroom was stained brown. The people working there were really nice. Breakfast was nice and very tasty..
If you can live a non-luxury life, the hotel is fine.
Great experience
Elaine Bon 02/04/2017 20:09This was more of a B&B but it was a good experience. The owner and her staff were very helpful in getting us set up with tours. The breakfast was good and we never felt like we were in a bad part of town.
Nice ad friendly place to stay
Barbara Kon 18/02/2017 19:32The Conignsby Inn is a small place more like a B&B. The rooms are old like the building, but clean. Air conditioner was leaking so don't put your bags there. The breakfast is good and the Stuff is very friendly and helpful, just ask if you need something and they will help you. All for a very good price. The Location is close to the water taxis and the neighborhood is ok, we went around by walking and it was not a problem ATM close and if you need a Taxi they happy to call you one. (Especially by night when the Tourist village is closed which is the case on the days without cruise ships.)
Our first time staying at "Inn"
Olga216on 19/01/2017 22:07It’s hard to review this B&B when you are an American and got used to your fancy hotels and crisp linens. Since I grew up in a different country without having much luxury, I will try to be as much objective as I can.
Room – it was a tired, moldy room with a dripping water from the A/C. By the way, A/C worked great! I had the feeling this room had seen a lot. Not going into many details, if you usually stay in Sheraton or Hilton, you will be not happy. This is not a type of the room where you want to relax and watch TV or bring small kids.
Service – it was okay, although we didn’t ask for too much. I was told that we could have a light housekeeping service whenever we wanted, but there was no need. I did ask for fresh towels though.
Safety – considering that South Side is not a very safe neighborhood, we felt pretty safe. The street was very quiet at night, I could hear only dogs barking. The building is located across National Bank of Belize.
Breakfast – I didn’t have one just because I am not a big fan of fried eggs, but it looked very nice. The lady cooked eggs, bacon, some sort of bread and fresh fruit. Also, you could use their cooler to keep your own drinks or food. There is soda for sale too.
Location – like I mentioned previously, the building is located in South Side of the city. We walked everywhere, but not at night. There are several supermarkets where you can buy groceries and also several banks with ATMs. The building is conveniently located close to the water taxi, tourist village, a police department (in case you need one) and the famous swinging bridge, the only bridge in the world that is manually operated. You can also catch a cab – for two people it’s $7 Belize anywhere in the city and $25 USD to get to the airport
Pleasant guesthouse in a poor area with friendly staff
JandEGranitebay_CAon 13/01/2017 00:43Calling it an inn or hotel may be a misnomer. Guesthouse fits better. It has a small family-like atmosphere, and the friendly staff gives it more of a B&B kind of experience. But it is a one-star accommodation by US standards. The building is old but the interior is clean. Everything – furniture, décor, etc. is rather old and worn, but I happen to like older classic kinds of places. It is popular with missionaries. A group of nurses stayed there while I was there. Several Americans I met return there often and they find it safe and affordable. The bed was soft and the toilet seat was broken and I had to fix the toilet flapper myself by holding down the flush handle to get it to flush completely (which always took at least 2 flushes.) The room AC unit was effective but it dripped water, so don’t place luggage under it. The mini-fridge was handy. There is no in-room microwave, coffee maker, or phone. Breakfast is available on site for about $7 US, reasonable considering no other breakfast options seemed better and readily available nearby. The Inn is just inside the somewhat dangerous “south zone” of Belize City and inside its main business center. It is not somewhere I’d walk around at night. During the day it feels safe, but panhandlers approach tourists constantly, asking for change or trying to sell you souvenirs or trinkets. It is hard to find your way around the city because of a lack of street signage – so many times I had no idea what street or intersection I was on, but I used a navigation app on my phone with GPS guidance that worked well. But be sure to download an app with offline maps that are not dependent on a wifi signal, and search your addresses of destinations in advance so you can plug them in. Regular visitors to Coningsby did venture out alone after dark for an ice cream shop nearby but I didn’t try it, not knowing my way around that well. It’s not an area I’d want to get lost at night. My room’s door had no inside knob and I had to pull it shut using the safety lock bar. The shower was adequate but the tub was damaged and ugly-looking. A nice plus is free WiFi and cable TV with lots of channels, many of which were “snowy,” but watchable. Dinners also available cooked by the desk clerk in a home-like kitchen. It tasted good and the price was reasonable. It is definitely not gourmet cooking or fare ‒ it’s more like something your grandmother might cook for you. Chicken (a bit tough) came with baked potato and some vegetables (cold). The area was noisy due to city street traffic and a local bird species (that looks like a crow or blackbird) with a loud shrill whistle. It is conveniently located – only a short walk across the small narrow bridge to the water taxi docks and the busy tourist area and cruise ship excursion terminals, near the more upscale Radisson Hotel. Local fruit and other vendors proliferate. Coningsby Inn had free parking in a muddy vacant lot next door. At a bargain price you get what you paid for. The only better options available will charge prices more typical of what you might pay in US.
