Not what I expect from Courtyard

I am a platinum loyalty member with Marriott and have been allowed allowed a 4pm late checkout every single time I have requested it, except at this property, which told me that a 4:00 check out was not available despite my status.

I always travel using a government rate. Every other Marriott property has upgraded my room whenever a better room was available. But. It this property, which told me that I wasn’t eligible for an upgrade because I was paying the government rate.

I nearly always stay at Marriott properties because I appreciate loyalty rewards. But if this property won’t honor my platinum status, I will stay at one of the other similarly priced but nicer properties in the area.

I always stay at the Marriott Courtyard when I'm in Champaign for work or personally. This stay in general has been quite normal, which means friendly staff, an updated, clean, and well-functioning room that was ready when I needed it, etc. and is why I keep coming back.

This morning I had a work problem come up that looked like it was going to take a bunch of time to sort out that I didn't have. Instead, I mentioned it to Ryan at the front desk and he came through to save me an hour and some money on a problem completely unrelated to the hotel except that I happened to be a guest. I'm now sitting down to a relaxed breakfast instead.

Terrible Internet

I paid $4.95 for the extra super-duper fast wifi internet (not sure if they call it that exactly), and got 370 Kbps (I kept the time-stamped screenshot in case Courtyard wants proof). For reference, Starbucks typically gives you 10 Mbps+ (a Mb is 1,000 Kb). In 2017, that's just unacceptable. Unfortunately until they fix their internet problem, I won't be back.

Have you ever gotten to your hotel early and we're told your room wasn't ready because housekeeping was still cleaning it, and when you finally checked in, the room was icky and sticky and you wondered what housekeeping was doing for the last few hours? Yup, this is that place.

This place has it all-broken screen on the patio door, chunks of dirt on the floor, streaks on the mirrors, bad smells (think cigarettes meets mildew), mold on the shower curtains, dust on the fixtures, broken toilet paper holder, and don't even ask me what that stuff is around the toilet.

Marriott's come in all shapes and sizes. Reasonable to expensive. But usually consistent. That's why you stay at a big chain hotel- consistency. If you're passing through this part of the country, try one of the other places. You probably can do better, can't do much worse.

3 single rooms, 3 nights, $1900.00 including tax and some snacks.

Terrible Customer service

My father recently passed away, several of my family had made a reservation on line. Since we had several traveling I inquired to see if we could get a group rate, Calita (Director of Sales), said she would give us the group rate of 99.00 for that weekend but we needed to first cancel all the rooms we had booked on line. I asked if she could just change the rate, she indicated she had no idea what rate we had or if it was refundable, that we would have to do it ourselves. We did and I called her back the next day. She was not at her desk,so I left a message, she never returned my call, I tried several more times, never returned my call. We gave up and have booked else where. This is a difficult time and I really did not need this extra drama.
