Wonderful Winter Destination - Cranberry Resort, Collingwood, Ontario

We stayed in a big, 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo. Great fireplace! This resort, leaves you close to everything.... the water, the mountains for skiing, shopping, great eating, and lots of small towns to visit!

a nice weekend getaway

We stayed here the weekend Nov. 10-12, with an offer we received at the home-show (others found the deal on Facebook) - the deal had a great price for the weekend, an hour at the spa (aqua-path) for a couple, as long as we went to the timeshare presentation at the newer and fancier Living Water resort across the street - it all went well, and as promised there was no pressure at the presentation. The Cranberry hotel is being renovated from the outside and our room was right where the work is being done - on Friday the entire floor vibrated and the noise was quite loud, but it all stopped at 5 PM and there was no work during the weekend (in all fairness we were advised of the work being done with the option to re-schedule our stay). The room we had was large with 2 queen beds, 2 chairs and table, nice flat screen TV with all channels, nice large washroom, desk, mini fridge, coffee maker... all the required amenities - the room was very clean, and the staff we met in the hallway was extremely friendly and helpful when required. We took advantage of this stay just to relax, so we didn't do much around Collingwood (walked on some waterfront paths)... we took advantage of the pool and hot-tub area in the hotel and it was relaxing (the hot-tub and jets were relaxing but I feel the temperature could have been slightly warmer). The pool area is very dated, peeling paint off the ceiling, grime in some areas of the tiles, the walkway into the changing room is half ripped out or under construction... I'm guessing with all the construction taking place this too will be taken care of eventually. We ate at the Memories restaurant once (behind the lobby area) on Saturday. Apparently they have live music on Friday and Saturday, and the guy was quite good, but a bit too loud for the size of the room - also, the live show brings in more people and the place gets very busy - unfortunately when we were there it seemed the restaurant was extremely understaffed. I asked to be seated at a table where I can watch the hockey game on the small TV on the wall and was willing to wait until a table cleared... eventually we were seated, but now we're waiting for the menu - I get up and ask the young lady that seated us and she instructed me to ask the bartender (while she and another 2 ladies were setting up the breakfast buffet area for the morning). The poor bartender was going crazy, serving drinks, taking orders and then serving as well (and apologizing for the delay every time she came to the table) - one of our drinks was brought in a broken glass...twice, only to have the 3rd drink comped (totally not the bartenders fault, as she was totally swamped for the duration). Needless to say, it took forever to get service and our food. At least our pasta (Carbonara) tasted good (the portion could have been a couple of fork-fulls more) - others in neighboring tables were not happy with their food and had returned some entrees. When you have a full house like that it should be all hands on deck, and leave the prepping for the next day until after the busy hours and crowd wind down... we noticed the manager socializing with what seemed to be regular patrons... Kudos to the young lady working the bar and serving - although we were totally dissatisfied with the restaurant experience, our stay was otherwise quite good...

The resort is lovely. Our rooms were large, clean, well-equipped and had a sliding door onto the deck and had a fireplace. We can't say enough about a Zumba instructor named Lori. She was easy to follow and exuded energy. It would be entertainment just to go and watch her. She made us (retired ladies) want to sign up for zumba in our hometown. We also enjoyed the entertainment at the bar on Friday night. The check-in was a bit disorganized but the staff made it pleasant. More signage could be used at check-in and throughout the resort. It is under construction and I hope that the pool will be renovated next.

Really?

Formerly a Holiday Inn back in the day. It’s old with a new face, in bad repair or under construction, pick one. Uncomfortable beds and horrible breakfast buffet. The back door doesn’t lock so there are security concerns......nope!

We had a very pleasant and stay restful stay

The staff was nice enough and we were left alone to rest. Every encounter with the staff was nice, they were friendly but reserved (my kind of nice) - it is not the fanciest of resorts but the price was right. We loved the pillows and the beds were very comfortable. It was their low season and the place was very quiet.
