What People are saying

Anniversary Stay.

taranpanesar on 20/11/2017 17:30

We booked this stay through a groupon deal. The reception area is actually a big red bus at the entrance of the hotel. The room was spacious with lovely decor, with a bottle of champagne in our room on ice, we were in Suite 2. The dinner was lovely in the Thai restaurant, it’s situated in a basement like room decorated with velvet walls. I feel like you don’t get enough food within the dinner allocation options, we had to add a pad Thai to go with the beef and rice with the green Thai curry which came to just over £15 just for those extras.

The hotel is somewhere to definitely go however I wouldn’t go without a deal. I feel like, once you’ve been to this hotel you don’t have to go back.

Definitely overpriced but a fun experience

I had been excited to try a Crazy Bear for some time before I finally took my girlfriend in April 2017. The professional photos you see of the rooms on Groupon look amazing but be warned, you must purchase the Deluxe or Superior suite rooms as the entry level rooms are apparently very small. The room we had was Superior room 9 which comes with the copper bath tub. The shower door was broken and the room didn't look like it was in massively good nick for a £300 per night hotel! The size is misleading, a lot smaller than we thought but the champagne was good so we didnt mind.

The grounds are gorgeous and the restaurant was brilliant looking with my expectations of over-the-top decor satisfied. However, be warned that the portions aren't massive. Drinks are actually pretty expensive and you'd think they would throw in more freebies considering how much you've already spent for the room. Breakfast in the morning was good but nothing special. I've had better in BnB's in Europe.

All in all it was a fun experience but I don't think i'll be going back anytime soon! Would rather do a city break for the same money somewhere in Europe. The farm shop down the road is worth a visit too!

Amazing experience but expected more from the suite room.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for one night. We stayed in Suite 7 and ate in the Thai restaurant for dinner.
Check in happens on a double decker bus which I found amusing but a bit impractical and odd, the staff were friendly and showed us to our suite, I was surprised to find that our suite was away from the main hotel and a couple of minutes walk up the road. Basically they bought a house and converted it into rooms, it's not that it's bad but it's just not what I expected - I was expecting this glam hotel and for all the rooms to be in the same building, not to be in a converted house next door to the locals but hey ho, it killed the illusion slightly.

The room itself was an attic room and was pretty breathtaking, you can see photos of Suite 7 on the website as you can with all the others. This particular room had an infinity bath that filled from the ceiling which was amazing. Good things about the room: Breathtaking decor - very impressive to say the least, the infinity bath was amazing, the toiletries were not cheap but high end and gorgeous, it was quiet and you got your privacy - no doors slamming or shouting outside, champagne in the room was great but that was part of our package not standard i don't think but it was absolutely gorgeous champagne. Not so good things about the room: The bath plug was broken so it constantly needed refilling (seriously?), no tea making facilities were in the room which was a let down and for a suite it was considerably smaller than expected, you also couldn't open any windows and we had to look quite hard to find the aircon which rattled all night and left the room feeling very dry. The bed was also only a double by the looks of it and the mattress was not comfortable. I know that I sound massively picky but the thing is - we paid something like £300 plus for this one night, so for that money you expect things to be perfect and for all those extra special touches to be there. We were told no room service to the rooms was available food wise but 24 hour drinks were possible to order, yet there was no ordering menu...another simple thing that could have been included and wasn't. A special mention goes to the ridiculous but very pretty sink in Suite 7.... a large marble slab with a bowl in the middle. The water cascaded from the roof into the bowl and you had to manually empty it but if you weren't careful it went all down your front...i'm a bit dumb so that's probably my fault, but i did go to dinner slightly damp, not a practical sink by any stretch.

Dinner in the Thai restaurant was amazing, there is simply nothing else to say - cocktails weren't sugared down they were proper cocktails (although at £13 a pop you'd expect so), food was beautiful - just gorgeous. I had duck, my partner had pork...not a single issue with dinner it was perfect.

Breakfast the next day was pleasant, nothing amazing but not awful either, it was a pretty standard breakfast and I enjoyed it a lot. Service was great from the staff the whole time and thank you very much to them for making our stay so lovely.

Overall what would I say about this hotel: You should go once for the experience, you should have champagne because that's their "thing" at the Crazy Bear hotels, I was personally disappointed that the room we had was a suite for the price I would have expected the extra touches - £300 is not cheap at all - most people even considering paying that kind of money will pay it if those extras are there so in that sense The Crazy Bear needs to up its game. What I feel you pay for is the decor, the styling is flamboyant everywhere in the hotel and that's really nice, but it's not enough to justify for the prices alone guys. If I were to stay again i'd avoid a suite and spend more on the food and drinks which are amazing, please put some better services in your rooms like minibars (seriously you're missing a trick there considering you sell champagne), tea making facilities, a cocktail menu, fix basic stuff like a working bath plug please.... most hotels do this as standard and I feel a bit annoyed that this hotel thinks it doesn't have to because the walls are decorated in velour....your marketing and decor will not fool customers who know what they expect to get when they hand over a wedge for a top notch room. That said, it wasn't a negative experience, I just hoped I wouldn't have anything to pick on given the price.

Top hotel

Great hotel. We stayed in room 3 (303) was a suite with a jacuzzi bath at the end of the bed with lights. The water fills up from the celling and needs to be over filled to work like an infinity pool. The walls were all black velvet. Very modern and slick look for a romantic night. We loved the red double decker bus reception very good idea. Deffo a wow factor. Recomend highly.

An experience not to remember

My wife and I were looking forward to staying here for a long time. We have visited the bar a couple of time before and thought it would be nice to stay and experience the hotel and restaurant.
After staying in the hotel I have to say I have never had such a terrible experience during a stay.
The room we were given was small and dark and smelt fusty from damp. There were no functioning controls for the heating, the room was uncomfortably hot (the thermostat stated 27c). No room service for food or drink, no minibar and no hot water. The bed was tiny (I am 6”1 and my feet were hanging off the bed to my ankles) and uncomfortable. With a function going on underneath our rooms windows until late, this too added to a bad nights sleep with loud music and the subsequent spill out of the drunken revellers.
The bar was overpriced but the bar service was a slight positive although many of the staff there were clearly not engaged in promoting a customer experience worthy of a 5 star establishment or the money they charge their clients.
The meal was also overpriced. We ate Thai and while a few of the dishes we ordered were good many were disappointing, and was not worth the money we were charged.
We left early in the morning partly due to there being no hot water to shower. While settling up at reception we procured managements email address - a formal complaint will be sent shortly. In the meantime, avoid like the plague unless you enjoy all of the above experiences.
