A little dated but a very smart typical Italian Hotel. We had a huge room, wooden floors and enough space for a dance practice if you needed. Because of the size it was a bit cold but had a nice balcony and excellent wifi. The bed was comfortable but it was a metal frame bed, unusual these days by typical of the hotel era. The walls seemed quite thin as it was possible to hear your neighbours better than you would think. Reception area, lounges and restaurant were all very smart and pleasant.
Meals were typically Italian as you would expect, 4 or 5 courses, and the waitress service very friendly and efficient.

Friendly staff

stopped in hotel for 3 nights, staff friendly and helpful. Food was very average and portions were not very big. Hotel was beautiful inside but not designed for elderly people, lots of stairs. Lifts small and have to take your cases up one flight of stairs to get to one of the lifts. Coach couldn't get to outside hotel so had to take cases up to the top of the road which was on a slope.

Friendly and helpful staff

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of Leger coach holiday, the first impressions was a little disappointing with all the shutters down on the rooms windows. It is quite a large hotel catering for several large groups efficiently. The town is in interesting countryside and a good base touting.
The corridors could do with reprinting a lighter colour and better lighting, the room was a good size overlooking the road so it was a little noisy in the mornings. The buffet breakfast in the mornings offered a good range of foods with friendly staff offering assistance when required. Evening meals offered a choice of menus selected at breakfast.

If you want to walk down to the Main Street, there is a short cut down the lift next to the bar. This saves a long walk, but if you use make a note of where you come out on to the street becuse it is not obvious when you return and the is a call button at the side to open the doors.

Phone stolen from safe in locked room

Had my phone stolen from the locker in my room during breakfast 20 minutes before I had to checkout and leave! Suddenly, the staff spoke very little English when I reported it at reception. With their broken English, they tried to convince me that I had 'lost' it. I went on to ask the travel company to report it as a crime, and the hotel told them that I'd not mentioned it to any of the staff! Thankfully my insurance company refunded me.

Furthermore, the food was poor and the rooms are very dated.

Avoid.

Very average and uninspiring

Booked into Astra as part of coach holiday. Allocation of rooms is hit and miss - I had a large double with small balcony at front. Others had a tiny single room. Suggest contact Astra in advance with your request as it seemed to work for me.

Public areas are drab and depressing in the Astra and the sister hotel is gaudy and poorly decorated.

Food was uninspiring and frequently lukewarm - I do not expect thin slices of reheated beef, smash and peas to be served up but they did...

On a positive note, the shower was good and there was always hot water.

Some travellers complained of being cold and eventually heating was turned on the last night.

Staff were friendly and kind - especially Anna who did multiple jobs and was run off her feet - the waitresses were also excellent. The only exception was a very miserable barman in the Cristallo.

Be sure to get the tourist road train and see the old town - can easily he missed but is lovely and has good views.
