Great hotel and wonderful staff

The nicest people in New Mexico work at this hotel and make it a pleasant stay every time I go there. Some of the hotel is dated, but the ambiance is nice, food is decent and the sunset views are spectacular.
Royal treatment!

The crown plaza keeps outdoing itself. I have stayed several times and each time is better than before. It’s the little things like early check in and having a bottle of wine waiting. The rooms are comfortable and are well appointed; most having a great view of the mountains.
Avoid unless there’s no other option

They just don’t get customer service here...asked for a quiet room and was assure the room I was given was on the “quiet” floor,.. which was just a way to try and placate me. Room wasn’t quiet and when I asked about moving was told nothing was available.. but later saw lots of people checking in.. Woke to black smelly goo bubbling up from the bathroom sink, when I called to get engineering the front desk couldn’t even manage a “we’re sorry”. The sink fun meant I didn’t really have use of my bathroom before leaving to go to work fo the day, and when I got back to the room at the end of the day there was no acknowledgment of the lbathroom problem. A call to the manager on duty was met with, “did they fix it?” But still no recognition that not having access to your bathroom in the morning is just a slight inconvenience and one of the things that you’re paying for when renting hotel room.
Rooms are tired with torn curtains and scuffed paint - but that’s minor compared to the bad management.
Decent Value, Not great Area

Check-in was poor: too cramped area for influx of guests on convention week-end. Desk staff offered to help me with my luggage, but delayed with non-stop arrivals. I was in process of making second trip when he did arrive with remainder. GOOD bed, smaller TV wasn't even working. No tub, fridge, microwave or safe. Very narrow closet, poor lighting in bathroom. Note 2 areas: tower vs cabana. Ask them which is closer to what your needs are. Cabana rooms closer to lobby. Tower worked fine for convention center. 2 restaurants and bar to choose from. Good food, great pizza. Nice outdoor patio area. Nice accoutrements in lobby, etc. Nice area for accessing computer in lobby. Coffee maker didn't always work. See photo of how much coffee I got one morning...after filling to appropriate water level.
Horrible Industrial Smells in Hotel, Horrible Guest Relations

Dear Crown Plaza Albuquerque -
It's been almost a month since I wrote to you regarding a problem I had at your hotel but there has been no response.
This was a case of something in the hotel making me physically ill and also a case of the hotel staff, particularly the desk manager on duty, not taking the time to understand the situation, not being being particularly caring or compassionate, and not working with me to find resolution or make it better.
There is an entire segment of the population who are extremely sensitive to heavy and/or strong scents - Walk into any candle shop, Bath and Body Works, perfume department and notice the heavy, cloying smells. If you are someone who is sensitive to heavy scents, this can produce instant headaches, nausea and can sometimes trigger migraines.
I experience this sensitivity from time to time. It’s rare but it happens. I have never had to request special accommodation for this but there are lots of people who experience it to a much higher degree than me.
I travel all over the world. I stay in many different hotels, hotel chains and on cruise ships. On rare occasions I've had to request a room change if the room was very old and/or still smelled like old cigarette smoke - but I have never had an issue with a smell in multiple hotel rooms like the issue I had at the Crowne Plaza Albuquerque.
We checked in about 5:00 pm on a Saturday evening. The first room smelled so heavily of bleach my eyes started burning. I called the front desk and was told it was because the room had just been cleaned. I have never checked into or returned to a hotel room after cleaning which smelled so heavily of bleach. I tried to open the sliding glass door leading to the patio to get fresh air but according to staff, all sliding doors on the first floor were permanently screwed shut for security reasons - the door would not open.
We were moved to a room right next door - and that’s when I first encountered the excessively heavy industrial room air freshener your hotel uses - it was like walking through a cloud. Again, I wanted to open the sliding glass door but again, the door was permanently shut and would not open.
I have never had to change rooms more than once in any hotel - but at the Crown Plaza Albuquerque I had to move one more time. We were moved to an upper level room.
The hallway and the room on the 5th floor also smelled excessively of the air freshener. By this time I was feeling ill and a headache was developing. I was very anxious and concerned it would turn into a migraine which would lead to pain and nausea - but I figured this was the best I could hope for. I called down to the front desk one more time to ask for a fan. According to your desk manager, the Crowne Plaza Albuquerque does not possess a single fan, something I find very hard to believe.
During the conversation with the Desk Manager I was told I had the following options:
1) Move to another hotel. This was not practical. We were only there for one night specifically to attend an event held at the Crowne Plaza Albuquerque.
2) Turn on the A/C: This was something we had already done but it was not helping much.
3) Open the sliding door. It was raining that night but we opened the sliding door anyway, we had no choice. I even sat out on the balcony for 30 minutes to try and clear my head. Then it started raining hard. Due to the heavy winds, rain was blowing in and getting the curtains and carpet wet but I didn’t have any choice other than to keep that door open. I took my prescription medicine for migraine and hoped for the best.
The worst thing to me - worse than feeling ill, worse than the headache, worse than the gross and excessively heavy smell that pervaded your hotel, was the attitude of the desk manager.
I didn’t want to be a bother or a nuisance but I was very concerned I was going to be sick. It was upsetting that a) I had to deal with the situation at all, not once but multiple times and b) that I was treated rudely by the front desk manager just because I was trying to find a solution.
It was obvious by how the desk manager spoke to me that she thought I was being unreasonable. I don’t believe advocating for my physical well being in a situation where I am paying for a hotel room is unreasonable under any circumstances.
Crowne Plaza Albuquerque is in the hospitality industry. All employees of Crowne Plaza Albuquerque are also in the hospitality industry. That means dealing with people, travelers, from all over the state, country, world. That means lots of different types of people with lots of different requests, issues, preferences, likes and dislikes, etc. If your staff can’t accommodate or show care and compassion to a paying guest or work with that guest politely and respectfully to find a solution, then Crowne Plaza Albuquerque, you and your staff are all in the wrong industry.
