What People are saying

6th visit and there is a definite change

RNM1972on 18/11/2017 11:15

If I could give 3.5 I would . We have been visiting the cuckoo brow for the last 3 years and this trip there was a definite change in the quality of the offering.

The room was still good , clean and comfortable although I was a little annoyed that at 1015 am on the day of departure we had a knock at the door to be told it was housekeeping and they wanted to clean the room , perhaps communication with reception would allow housekeeping to track who has actually checked out

The food has also changed , steaks have disappeared from the menu and most other items are accompanied with chips or curly fries , the quality it definitely on the way down. Prices are also up £9.95 for a crab and chorizo risotto is London prices , yes it was good but steep in price. Breakfast was also inconsistent , hash browns dripping in grease and different styles of mushrooms both days , day 1 well cooked ans tasty but by day2 watery and hard ! Is the standard for serving beans to be in a ramekin or not , variance over 2 days ! Whoever was the breakfast chef on day 1 (13nov) was way better than day 2.

On all previous visits Emily and other managers have gone out of their way to engage with customers , the only time we heard the current post holder was when he asked one of his staff to make him a latte , and then disappear into his cubby hole

We will revisit but am hopeful that it's a blip as regular customers will notice the difference

The Cuckoo Brow Inn is in a pretty part of the Lakes, with good walking from the door. The bar area has a nice understated but well looked-after feel to it and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. We had a family room - had we been a family rather than just two of us it would have been a squash - but the room was very clean, with good quality linen and the bed was incredibly comfortable.

Two night mini break

We had a twin bedded room, which was well appointed with bathroom and large TV with ample tea and coffee facilities. Bar well stocked with local ales, excellent breakfast with a daily chefs special. Lunches and evening meals excellent, with evening meal it is advisable to book. The staff were efficient, warm and friendly. I would highly recommend.

Lovely Inn.

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful, long weekend at the Cuckoo Brow Inn. The Inn is set in Far Sawrey on the western side of Lake Windermere, with easy access to Bowness on Windermere via the car ferry, at a cost of 50p each way, for foot passengers. The Inn was fully booked for both nights of our stay, as were the tables for dinner. The food is traditional pub grub and I can highly recommend the pies of the day, which are full and flavoursome. Our room was clean, comfortable and provided a stunning view across the valley. The Inn is ideal for walkers, with a number of well signed, easy walks, readily available. I would highly recommend the Cuckoo Brow Inn to my fellow travellers.
