FANTASTIC BOUTIQUE HOTEL AND EXCEPTIONAL STAFF!

We stayed here for a few days is low season - was fantastic. Rooms are clean and cosy, the hotel's location is perfect in the heart of Sidi Bou Said with a stunning view of the sea. There's a great restaurant just 30 metres from the hotel, a SPA, great breakfast... everything you need for a romantic vacation!
But perhaps most importantly, the staff is fantastic. We lost a valuable item - they looked for it, found it, sent it to the country where I was working but I didn't manage to pick it up for a month so it was returned to Tunisia. They went back to the post office, sent it again to another country, followed up with us/updated us every time and now we got the item.
Makrem - you have been so kind to us, never experienced such a service anywhere else!
Looking forward to our next visit!
Boutique hotel

It's a nice boutique hotel. The staff try to help you as much as possible, however you always feel they have limited resources. The pool is small, but fine most of the time. Breakfast open buffet is limited but tasty. The rooms are spacious & very clean. Bathrooms are very good & clean too. The air conditions inside the rooms are a bit weak.
Beautiful Property, Well Located, Untrained and Unprofessional Staff

For those wanting a quick review: This place is impeccably located with phenomenal views, if you speak French or Arabic, and won't need anything from the staff (only to check in and check out), and are willing to put up with some degree of frustration during checkin and checkout, then this place should work for you.
For the below reasons, I don't plan to return to, or recommend, Dar Said.
I booked this hotel based on a recommendation from a Tunisian friend. He has good taste, and thus, I expected the property to meet global standards for a 4-star hotel.
Upon arrival, there were 3 people working, but only one man frantically running about trying to help the 3 parties who'd shown up to check in simultaneously. Once he got to me, he told me it would be 5 minutes until my room was ready. I waited 15, and then touched base, he told me 10 more minutes.
I took a 30 minute walk, and when I returned, I was told I would need to find hotel staff to lock and unlock my door when needed, because the last guest had accidentally taken my room key with them upon departure.
I then got to my room, which only had one bed. I pointed to my reservation paperwork and explained that I needed a room with 2 beds. The same frantic man asked me to give him a few minutes. Maybe 15 minutes later he returned to tell me that he gave my room to someone else because I'd showed up alone, and he didn't think I would need two beds (my friend was meeting me later that day and she was not at checkin...but that's a poor assumption to make. He should have asked me).
This same man than said that he would find someone to trade rooms with me. Once he found someone to do this, he told me that that guest was out, and it would be 60-90 minutes until they returned to the hotel, and we could trade rooms at that time.
Honestly, mistakes happen, but explaining all this to a guest is completely unprofessional. You guys messed up, and now you just need to fix it. I don't want or need all the details, because they made me feel guilty.
Once the room swap was arranged, NO ONE helped with my luggage. I moved the luggage of 2 people who were packed for a 6 week trip, from a first floor room to a second floor room, alone. This was very frustrating.
The next day, we asked the front desk to help arrange a taxi for us. They told us they wouldn't be able to do that because taxi's don't go to where we wanted to go. Our local friend then called and spoke with the front desk staff, and they then said they would arrange the taxi. By the time this had all been sorted out, it was too late in the day, and we missed the opportunity to see rural Tunisia. Also very frustrating.
In the midst of all of the above. Every request and every interaction with any of the hotel staff was hugely frustrating because of their lack of proficiency in English. They also employ a middle aged woman who's normal level of speaking, sounds like shouting. She's like, the angriest human I've ever met. She was unwelcoming, intimidating, and yelled at everyone all the time. Customer service within the hospitality industry is perhaps the last place she should be working.
The morning of departure, we had arranged taxi's to take us to the airport. These were late, and no one at the front desk spoke English well enough to help me understand what was going on.
The end all: If you speak French or Arabic, and are okay with 1-star customer service at a 4-star venue, book this. If you're not okay with that, don't book this.
To the owners: your staff needs some training in customer service, and I think some should be required to learn English better. There were multiple times when your staff didn't understand something we were asking for, but said "Okay" or "Yes" and then we waited for them to help/do something that they never did because they didn't understand what we were asking for. This is terribly low level of service. And the entire time, I was worried this angry woman was going to start shouting at me in Arabic.
beautiful, secluded even in the middle of tourist area, fabulous retreat

ridiculously beautiful rooms, with beautiful tile, and the cleaning staff will leave fresh flowers all over the place. stunning views from the patios (though sometimes the wifi doesn't work as well out there). really kind and helpful staff (helped me drive down the scary roads of sidi bou said to get to the parking lot!!) was here for work for 2 weeks and it felt like such a rejuvenation whenever I got back to the hotel. safe, and can't emphasize enough how nice the entire staff was. would absolutely recommend and go back.
Fabulous and just how i remembered it

It had been over 1 year since i came to Tunis and i made Dar Said my final stop before coming home and it was like a home coming.
I had booked a normal room, but git upgraded to a junior suite with a sea view. I did not venture far as the room and hotel were sooo calming.
Staff were fabulous and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was superb.
