What People are saying
Some good, some bad

In an historic hotel I don’t expect Four Seasons quality. That being said, our room (Boothby) was small but sufficient. But it was freezing cold! We had an extra blanket and still wore long underwear under my pajamas. I had to force myself to take a shower! There was a loud noise outside, a kitchen fan maybe? Super annoying.
The breakfast eggs were burned on the bottom, the toast was cold & dry with only about a tablespoon of jam. The tea selection was good as was the coffee.
We both had prime rib for dinner which was good but barely warm, have you heard of pre-warming plates? We both had gin & tonics which were basically a glass of gin. Good bartenders understand that the best cocktails are a balance of flavors. If I had wanted just a glass of gin I would have ordered that. The people at the next table had wine they said was excellent. They too complained about the cold prime rib.
Probably won’t recommend it to others.
Excellent food

We are here for 2 breakfasts and dinners while staying in the hotel. If we lived in the area, we would frequent this dining room because the food is so very good.
Lovely setting, slow service, overpriced and just so-so food.

The best part of the visit was the setting in a very old historic house/hotel. Lots of lovely antique glassware, etc. on display. The front porch would have been a lovely place to spend time in the porch swings, etc. on a warmer day. We called ahead for reservations for a party of 5 at 6:00. We arrived to an empty, but lovely restaurant and were seated at a nice table next to the window. The service was excruciatingly slow. Just getting our pre-dinner cocktails seemed to take forever. Three of us had the prime rib and two of us had the salmon. When served, we commented that the prime rib looked more like medium well than the medium rare that was ordered, and the server told us it would be fine inside. My guess is that they pan-grill the meat before serving to heat it as inside it was closer to medium-rare....but it was tough, dry and tasteless except for the salty edges. The salmon was a bit over-cooked and therefore dry, and was coated on top with an odd, strong-tasting seasoning. The other person in our party who had the salmon thought it was fine. Baked potato was done properly. The pre-dinner bread seemed to be homemade and warm and tasty. Because of the slow service, a member of our party went looking for the server to expedite the ordering of a couple of glasses of wine, made the mistake of poking her head in the kitchen looking for someone to help and was roundly chastised for doing so by a woman who appeared to be in charge (owner? manager? head chef?). When the bills were finally prepared and brought to the table another long wait ensued until another member of our party tracked down the server. Not sure why the service was so slow, there weren't more than 5-6 tables in use, but apparently only one server, and our table was on the far side of the restaurant, some 20 or more feet from any other table, so there wasn't a lot of opportunity to even try to get the server's attention. All in all it was over 2 hours and a lot of money for a barely adequately prepared meal in a LOVELY setting. It's a good thing the annual music festival had been cancelled, or we'd still be waiting for the check a day later!
A wonderful respite in the middle of a beautiful forest

A very enjoyable stay for us. The rooms are clean, quiet and complete with all the necessary amenities. It's amazing to find such a nice, friendly place in the middle of nowhere. Great, personable owners.

I am probably being a little generous given our experience of the food but the waitresses were both very good. We ate here twice as we were staying at the hotel and there are very few options plus we were getting back from Crater Lake quite late so it was just convenient. The first night we both enjoyed our meals - I had the prime rib which was good - the garlic mash had way too much garlic it was over powering. My husband had the salmon with rice and really enjoyed it. Night 2 we both had the rib eye - it was just ok - it was strongly seasoned which was just ok for our taste but it seem really greasy. Baked potato and veg was ok. We thought the food was very over priced for the quality to be honest
