Home from home
Graham Con 16/03/2017 20:40Such a welcoming place to stay, there is a great atmosphere as all the staff are really friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Francesca who runs the hotel is supremely efficient - she not only printed us a copy of the local shuttle bus timetable to the Bus Station she even highlighted the best buses to connect to the bus to La Thuile! her husband Alberto is in charge of the kitchen - if you didn't want the choice on the menu for dinner next night you only had to ask and something else could be arranged. His cakes for breakfast and dessert in the evening were delicious.
The whole hotel is spotless which makes a pleasant change from most hotels you stay in. My only grumble with the compact bathroom was the small shower - I kept knocking the mixer tap whilst washing which resulted in a sudden blast of either boiling hot or freezing cold water!
Children are made to feel very at home, at dinner time the evening receptionist was more than happy to have a group of children with her drawing pictures between courses whilst their parents were eating dinner. Sometimes when Francesca was on the desk she had her two little children with her which was lovely to see.
The walk to the Cable car is down a lovely narrow cobbled street which passes some beautiful old houses, luckily it is flat and there is little traffic.
I would disagree with 2016Jess about the downstairs lounge "The Tavern" it was a nice relaxing place to sit and have a drink after walking back from the lift. It was fairly busy every evening we came back - there are plenty of games for the children to play. I often sat there to read in the evenings - I get a bit stir crazy stuck in one room all week!

Francesca is a super kind host, always attentive to details, guests' needs, and to guarantee all the guests are perfectly treated.
Her family is the one of each guest. It is a pleasure being part of this reality.
A long week end in February at the beginning of the UK half term week.
2016jesson 26/02/2017 08:02Hotel des Glaciers is about 250 metres from the Dolonne cable car which takes you up to the main skiing area of Courmayeur. It is built in a traditional chalet style. I shared a triple room with my two daughters (one bed was a camp bed but was perfectly comfortable). The room was simply furnished and spotlessly clean - as was the whole hotel.
From the moment we arrived we received the warmest welcome from Francesca who owns and manages the hotel. In fact she had been really helpful in the run up to our trip and had answered emails promptly giving me relevant information about transfers and ski hire. She speaks very good English and also French. The hotel has been in her husband's family for a long time and they even have a little museum downstairs which is full of interesting artifacts from daily life in the Alps from the past 100 years or so.
We had opted for the half board option and this was a good solution as Hotel des Glaciers is a 10 minute walk from the pedestrianised town centre where there are other restaurants. We walked there several times but at one point the road goes through a short tunnel and there is no pavement, so I wouldn't have wanted to do this in the dark.
Francesca's husband is the cook. He baked fresh local cakes for breakfast and offers a three course meal in the evening. They have a brilliant system whereby you are left a menu on the table at dinner the day before and can place your order for the following evening. My daughter is a vegetarian/ almost vegan but this was not a problem and she was given several options to choose from. The meals were simple and tasty and included local specialities. Breakfast was continental with plenty of choice of cereal, fruit, baked goods and toast.
The really great thing about Hotel des Glaciers is that Francesca's charm and kindness rub off on all her staff, they were all delightful. We were sad to say goodbye after a three night visit.
They have a downstairs sitting room, and lit the fire one evening but it was a bit soulless. This is the only area that they could improve - it would be lovely to come back after skiing and have a cosy area to relax with a roaring fire.
Long weekend
LenaStrmbergon 20/02/2017 14:12Nice and friendly atmosphere, walking distance to Both cable car and downtown Courmayeur! Francesca with family really made us feel home and comfortably. Thinking about geting back next year again. Dolonne is a nice Village with Lovely italian style.
Lovely family run hotel close to the ski slopes
T1726RTdavidpon 13/02/2017 22:07We were a group of 5 who rented two rooms for a long weekend and three days of skiing. This hotel is a family run hotel and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. The facilities were all we wanted and as we were half-board we were well fed at breakfast and dinner. I would recommend to other skiers.
