A surprise at $47 a night for my honey and our two pups. I thought it would be twice that. That was a posted price, so not an odd moment. Nice pool, great restaurant and service. Huge double porch area. Room had a lot of space. Open a sliding glass door to the covered porch and walk on the very long beach until you're tired, then turn and go back. At the end of the malecón beach, so less noise. Wake up to a gorgeous sunrise pouring in.

Hardly anyone there when we were there in February, 2017. A very short walk downtown along the beach. Wifi was only in reception area, so more quality time in our room and brief checking emails over breakfast. When we arrived back home in Oregon I went online to see how much a round trip airfare was. I want to come back and spend more time. I love Loreto.

Largish Resort just N of the Malecon

patmandue on 27/11/2016 17:41

This is a Baja style resort just N of the Loreto Malecon meaning it is a bit rough but has all the amenities you would expect(pools, restaurant, bar). If you get lucky as we were, you might meet some Mexican Tele-Novella stars, since during our last stay they were filming at the resort. The Desert Inn has buildings that house up to around 24 rooms and several 4 plexes that house the accommodations we chose. For around $60 US you get a pet friendly suite that include 2 kings, fireplace, entry, nice bath, and a deck to take in the Sea of Cortez. Oh, air conditioning too.

Just a break...

galen w on 27/08/2016 17:18

My wife and I needed a short break from the heat of south Texas and from work. So we headed impromptu to Santa Fe, one of our favorite resting places within driving distance. Although we had utilized the spa at Loretto, we have never stayed there. The other favored places were sold out on the nights we were going to be there. So we took what appeared a small risk and stayed at Loretto. We enjoyed the restaurant (I'd rate it high), and the ambiance of the place, but felt the rooms were a little tired. The mattress we had was worn and they use a synthetic sheets that mock high-thread-count sheets on the bed, and the covers simply can't stay on. So for three nights I fought keeping the light blanket they provide (for us who despise duvets) on the sheet.

We unfortunately were given a room above the restaurant and on Monday morning the dumpsters being emptied and the relentless dumping of glass beer bottles from on container to the next ruined our sleep before daylight.

Frustrating that management in hospitality doesn't think of "rest of their guests" as being connected to making money. Dumping glass bottles before daylight outside the guest rooms is just inexcusable, as is cutting corners on nice cotton sheets that show wear, for a nylon variety that last like a Ford Taurus. I understand if that is a management decision to save money, but the room rates should reflect "bargain", not "premium".

In fairness, the hotel is a nice place but attention to guest comfort is lacking some. I wouldn't rate it high for rest on the west side of the hotel near the restaurant, but i'd rate it extremely high for convenience to all things in town. If you can sacrifice a few of the small things that are big thugs to me, then this is your place.

Not sure if it's a corporate or local management issue that cuts corners on quality (bed sheets in particular), but it's an issue all the same for those who value quality and a good night's sleep. Yes, I'm spoiled I know, but we paid for quality and got a little less than portrayed. Had the website said "synthetic sheets" and "loud early morning noise" we'd have stayed elsewhere.

The team there is helpful and kind, but there is just a disconnect with details. I'd place my bet on a corporate decision:-)

I liked the hotel. Great pools and grounds. Rooms plain, but large and clean, and hot water. Even fireplace, not sure if ever used. Nice staff, views of the water. A short walk on the beach to the malecon. The beach is little rocky with grey sand, but that is the way beaches in Loreto are. Breakfast was fine, lunch turned out little strange (my pesto spagheti had no pesto at all and were broken into smaller pieces), but who cares, sitting by a beautiful pool. Wifi was only available right by the reception, but again, who cares about wifi in a place like that.

Average Hotel, Good Location

Conveniently located at the end of the malecon in Loreto, the Desert Inn is a nice, back-front property. The beach itself is a bit dirty, rather than sandy, but the view is still beautiful.

The rooms are very large, bright, clean, and we've been pleased every time we've stayed here.

The hotel's status as "pet-friendly" seems a bit uncertain... On our stay in January this year we had no problem at all... When we returned in March the guy checking us in was very unsure about the dogs. He went into the back room to make a phone call, then told me that I had to pay an extra 100 pesos (cash) that he said was for the ladies who clean the rooms... Uh huh... Okay. It's not that much extra to pay for a dog fee, and I was happy to be able to stay at the hotel with our dogs.

Typical of Mexican hotels, wi-fi did not work in the rooms, but it was acceptable in the common area near the front desk.

As long as this hotel remains pet-friendly we will continue to stay here because we like the rooms and the location.
