I have stayed at the Devonshire House with a colleague for the last three months. The staff there are personable and made us feel very welcome. It was a real home away from home for my time there and I hope to be able to go back again at some time. I would recommend it to anyone.

When arriving at 3 am we were greeted with avoid the breakfast it is fowl from the receptionist. We then went to our room which had not been cleaned there was rubbish in the draw was freezing cold and an awful smell. We had booked for 2 nights very tired and made us feel quite unwell. we went to the reception and asked to move he done his best to help us by helping to find alternative accommodation with no luck as all booked up. he then found an alternative room in the hotel which was acceptable and we were told we could have this room for the 2 nights we had booked.
In the morning we left are stuff to go to conference to be greeted with a phone call saying we needed to go back to the hotel and remove our stuff or they would remove it for us. to get back to the hotel and eventually get to speak to the manager who was extremely rude. Told us were lying about his night staff memeber who would have never told us we had to room for 2 nights. to also go on and say that don't expect any compensation and if we were to fight it we could leave and not come back. walked into the back office and slammed the door. You do not treat customers like that in any stretch of the imagination. We then had a lovely lady come and speak to us offering our original room back which had been cleaned and told us she was sorry it hadnt been cleaned before.
We decided we were not going to proceed with our stay at this hotel due to the way we were treated by the gentleman and how we were spoken to so we had to find alternative accommodation.
I would not be returning to this hotel again and will not be recommending it to anybody. It was an awful experience. We missed half of what we had traveled 6 hours for a morning of hell nobody should have to have dealt with the man that spoke to us.
A bit of advice if customer service lessons required for your male manager as if he spoke to people with a better mannerism you wouldn't have as many bad reviews on here or Facebook.

my wife and I have just returned from this hotel.we found the hotel clean throughout, the staff are all very friendly. breakfast was good with plenty of choice, hot or cold. the only problems we had was bath/ shower, it was very high to get into. also no hand rail . it had been removed from the wall.as we are getting on a bit, it was rather dangerous, getting in and out. plus the bath was very slip when wet. we only tried it once, and both nearly fell.also the door key card. stopped working every day. and I had to go down to reception to get it sorted. I reported the shower rail was missing, told it would be seen to. but nothing happened. overall we enjoyed our stay.

Had my wedding here and had the best time ever thank you to all the lovley staff who helped make it the best day of my life from repecition to bar staff to Amy john Dave Lynn and to the lovley manger billy who all went out there way to make are day so very special we can not say thank you enough outstanding service so thank you Devonshire staff so very much I had the best day ever and that's because you all made my day so perfect ššš

Attended a function here - I knew the person who was organising the event and she said the staff had been really helpful in getting the room ready and orchestrating the food and entertainment.
I stayed afterwards in the hotel. It was ok. Decor very worn and a little Fawlty Towers around the edges but it was clean and staff were friendly. Not a place Iād plan to spend much time but I got a nights sleep at a good price.
Breakfast was ok too.
