Great food, actually after 2 weeks in Laos we have not had bad food yet, so probably par for the course. Yes it is a bit Franco European decor but that's to be expected. Good respite from the heat outside in the aircon restaurant, but still retains a taste of Laos in service and food.
It is more expensive than a street cafe or bar, and so it should be, you are paying for decor and cool, not a sweaty bar, but we have eaten in all types from street to nouveau, and enjoyed all, just depends how deep your pockets are.
We recommend Kualao as a little treat from street food.

This is THE restaurant that the Laos government uses to entertain foreign leaders who visit Laos. As you enter the restaurants, you will see many photos of famous people who have visited and dined in this place.
There is a traditional show at 7pm every evening.
Making in-advance reservation is highly recommended to secure a table for evening dining.
They offer set menu as well as a la car. After looking at the menu, I recommend ordering a set menu, it's less expensive than if you order exactly the same thing a la car. And set menu gives you to sample different dishes in small portion.
Foods are fresh and delicious. It's definitely worth visiting. Only one block from That Dam, the Black Stupa.

If you are in Laos for the first time, and not sure about the local food, then this is the place to come.
Great building good atmosphere with the evening traditional music.Clean air conditioned dinning rooms.
The menu is well presented and they have testing menus. The staff are happy to assist the customers with suggestions of what dishes “pair” well together.
The wait time for food is not long.
Altogether a well run operation and a good experience.
However if you are well traveled in Laos or Northern Thailand you will find the food spiced down from the normal.( they brought me a sauce to tone up ! )
I loved the brown sticky rice, not often found.
They are also used to large groups.
A fun night.

Food is not too much wow but I think it is one of the best for the tourists because the taste is ok for everyone. The premium menu is big and suitable for more than 3 persons.

The restaurant has great hardware but the food served here is average. Laotian cuisine is served here accompanied by Laotion music and traditional dance. I can locate better Laotian cuisine elsewhere but I reckon I was paying for the environment and entertainment.
