I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels but this one was definitely not up to standards considering how much we paid. The girls on reception were rude and I definitely didn’t feel like I could ask questions or ask for help about the city about tours etc. The ladies toilets were disgusting considering it says they get cleaned 3 times a day. I had to shower in the dark as there were no lights on the 4th floor shower cubicles. The kitchen was disgusting but I think that’s more the guests to blame. Overall the location was excellent, the beds and rooms were okay but the rest needs a good and regular deep clean!

I’ve backpacked all over the world and this is one of the worst hostels ever!
Its a massive multi-story factory like hostel, filthy dirty from top to toe with rude and incompetent staff.
Tiny rooms, rickety metal bunks, lumpy mattresses, peeling paint, RANK carpet.
Stayed for a week, room was NOT CLEANED the entire time!
The swipe cards for the doors stop working EVERY SINGLE DAY, forcing you go down to reception and line up to get the reactivated.
Got locked out of my room in my pj’s TWICE just trying to go to the bathroom. Because of this everyone just wedges all their doors open, which leaves all your valuables and luggage exposed - not safe or secure!
The kitchen is SO RANK I sware it’s a health and safety risk - it is never cleaned, ever. Every inch of bench space is covered in food scraps and grime, there are no coffee mugs and no bowls so impossible to make breakfast. Because of this I was forced to eat out everyday.
Because of the rankness of this hostel the clientele reflect it, loud obnoxious party animals blaring music in the hall walls and banging doors all night long - i could write a novel on HOW BAD THIS PLACE IS!
I booked for 8 nights and after enduring 3 I went down to cancel the rest of my booking and I was told I could not get any money back at all.
I endured it for another 2 then had to for out another $100 to stay at the YHA down the road....
I travel to Melbourne for work and have now stayed at Nomads and YHA and they are both HANDS DOWN a million times better.
Discovery is SO BAD if department of health went in there I sware it would be shut down.

All the rooms are dirty and smell bad: bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom has also a smell of urine and is not often cleaned up. It's a mess in the kitchen, there are not enough ustensils and it's difficult to cook and eat properly : few pans, knives, forks... It's not odd here to eat your cereal in a saucepan, it's even rather recommended.

Staff have no idea about the hostel or it’s rooms and definitely cannot use their own computer systems. People walk into your private room because reception didn’t bother to tell you they’d moved you and had given the key to someone else. One person at reception was able to sort this out, the other thought it was funny and laughed... quite a lot about it. When I complained I was told they had made a mistake, but that I had to move within 30 minutes as they had people checking in. I asked for help, it was not given or offered. Had I been at work, all of my belongings would have been thrown into lost property. The keys always stop working and you have to queue for 30 mins each day to get a new one. The kitchen is always a disgusting mess and always unclean even though it says they clean it 3 times a day. Had to ask for clean sheets over 3 times over 3 days because they were not refreshed after a week and a half. When they finally came with them, we were told no one could make the bed or knew what to do and we had to do it ourselves, even though we were here for a month and would be working full time. The reason we stayed was because we paid a month in advance because it was cheaper but was not told this money would not be given back, no matter how bad the stay was. Staff also regularly told us that the owners don’t really care and that it’s basically tough. Nowhere safe to store food so it gets stolen. Also, there is few rations of plates, cutlery, pots and pans. Basically it’s a disgrace of people who don’t care.

I realise this is a hostel and it's cheep, but there are standards.
I arrived at night and was told to choose a bed with no name tag, so I did. I though it was clean. Come to find out in the morning, the bedding was far from clean and had stains on. I had to strip and change it myself, which is fine....but standards.
The floor was also disgusting, I saw the cleaning staff in there a few times, never with a hoover. The other room mates said someones stuff had been in there for weeks and it didn't belong to anyone.
The staff are quite friendly. The bathrooms are clean and nice warm showers.
Breakfast is cornflakes or toast.
Its in a good location too.
