Hotel rooms with washers/dryers and full kitchens are going to attract families. We brought ours. First thing I noticed was the glass decorations everywhere, corded shades, sharp corners etc. in the room, exposed wires and plugs -- no thought to child safety. We made do, but that was disappointing especially since they had a pack-n-play waiting for us in the room which told us they saw we had kids. Other hotels address these issues.
The next shortcoming was the staff. I always appreciate the hard work of those performing staff services, but I got the impression that they were short handed. A lot of little shortcomings that added up: When we had a glass break in our room, it took 2 hours and 4 calls to get housekeeping to sweep up the mess. When we ordered room service, our $3 "toast" was 2 un-toasted slices of bread with no butter or jam -- and our $12 "carafe" of coffee was 1/2 full. We were next to the restaurant; yet, room service took 1+ hour... There were no sand toys provided upon checkin (cf. Ritz Kids); yet, we met people who received such toys at checkin (meaning we were short-changed)...
Given the price and limited amenities, I would expect a better staffed and nicer facility.
I would also point out this is not really a resort. It is a small hotel with a single pool and a single restaurant that closes at 9 p.m. on weekends.

With two students at Cal Poly SLO, we are frequent visitors of the area. Our #1 choice of places to stay Is Dolphin Bay. The service is fabulous, the rooms are beautiful, the views are breathtaking, and the restaurant (Lido) and spa are definite musts. Located 15 minutes from the campus and downtown SLO, and 5 minutes from Avila Beach, it is perfectly located. The rooms are all suites (one or two bedrooms), with full kitchens and living rooms (including a sleeper couch). They are even pet-friendly! If you are planning a special trip to the central coast, this is the place to stay!

We've stayed at DB Resort before and always enjoyed it. Great room (we had a suite), great views of the ocean, fine furnishings and amenities (our coffee maker died and was replaced immediately), good beach access, and very comfortable overall. The staff are attentive and very polite. We haven't dined at the onsite restaurant, but will one of these days. I'm sure we'll be back.

I can't rave enough about our stay at Dolphin Bay! From the seamless check-in to our sad departure. The best consolation was knowing that we would return as soon as possible. Pismo has always been our "go-to" destination for a quick getaway and staying at DB is the best excuse to do just that and enjoy the beautiful central coast.
Everyone you'll encounter on your stay will be professional yet friendly. I appreciate that housekeeping checks on a good time to come in, and leaves your rooms immaculate. The server at the pool will keep your glass full and any request will be met with a smile. The Lido restaurant offers top notch, fresh dishes. We know... we ate all of our meals there and never left the resort. The only hiccup was on the Friday night of our stay they hosted a wedding and the restaurant service was very slow, in fact we wondered if we may have been forgotten about several times. This was not the servers fault as she was obviously on overload with so much going on. The F&B manager could have had more help on duty that night. We have 2 small children and our 4 year old fell asleep before getting his meal. One suggestion would be to wait for a table in the front of the restaurant or inside and not in the overflow area on the side. Daytime lunch service was excellent and highly recommended. Our server was Brett and everything was seamless. A meal is always more enjoyable when the service and good and the food even better.

This resort is amazing. We stayed in an oceanfront suite and the view and amenities were fantastic. We traveled with our dog and the hotel was so accommodating. We were able to dine with her in the Lido restaurant outside. Every employee from the Valet, Front Desk Receptionist, Cleaning Crew, Restaurant Servers were so friendly and helpful. Everything about our stay was 5 star and we will be back!
