What People are saying

a cold week

danstab3bbon 16/06/2017 16:14

Not very satisfing. The first sight was a dog strolling in the children area, peeing on the sand. The rooms are awfuly small, the balcony as well. We, as members of the club, were not even given the possibility of a hot tea inside the room: no kettle,no tea nor coffee bags as you usually can find also in modest pensions, The only shop inside the structure is a tiny place where you can just book newspapers and magazines for the next day. The souvenirs offered are more expensive than in the nearest village, S.ta Flavia., that's not that near at all. Food's very anonymous, no local specialities. Children activities're apositive side of the place,

Great stay, one complaint

We stayed in a villa and they obviously have separate hot water plumbing, and the tanks are too small. Only enough hot water for one member of our party to enjoy a hot shower before dinner.

Otherwise, facilities were fabulous and high quality. Staff was super friendly. Breakfast buffet was great. Restaurants were fabulous.

Beautiful hotel and amazing staff

Following what could have been some holiday-ruining dramas (that weren't the fault of the hotel at all), Domina single-handedly turned the holiday and experience of Sicily into something memorable and positive.

The staff are amazing - friendly, welcoming and go above and beyond to do whatever you need to make your stay as you'd like. I'd like to take this opportunity to particularly thank Diego and Jonathan from the D Club office who particularly do everything they can to make your stay as relaxing as possible - even if you're not a 'D Club' member. For example, although Sicily may not appear the most accessible of islands, I saw Diego in particular helping one family with their daughter in a wheelchair, so she could see as much as possible, up and down the steep hills and cliffs of the island.

In general, the rooms are nice and thoroughly cleaned, although if you want a spacious room, I'd suggest you book a suite. The restaurants are lovely and offer fresh food and drink, particularly the pool bar and restaurant. The pools and excursions available are amazing and the staff are extremely knowledgeable, speaking a variety of languages to suit the many.

The location is in a nice, small fishing village, with a train station, although really you'd need to hire a car or use taxis to travel to most places. However, you could spend the entire holiday in the hotel with multiple restaurants and bars, a pharmacy and medical care, a wellness point / spa, gym, tennis courts and other sporting activities for adults and children, as well as excursions to the city and on boats, including diving and snorkelling right from the hotel. It's a lovely place, and you'll be very well looked after.

Quiet, modern seaside hotel

TonaghAnnon 10/06/2017 11:27

Reception staff were welcoming and helpful, as were the housekeeping staff. comfy bed and good quality towels. Bathroom Items were replenished daily. The bar staff however were slow and distant, apart from Antonio (?) who was working in the pool bar by the lower swimming pool - this pool is close to the sea and quieter than the one on the same level as the hotel, quite a few steps down though. Many of the sea facing balconies do not get any day time sun, my balcony was tiny with 1 chair and no table, I wondered why they bothered with it at all. There was a good variety of food at breakfast, however the hot food seemed to be cooked early and was generally cool/cold. Dinner was OK but not great. Immediately outside the hotel there is no foot path and it is a busy road so walking is a problem, however you can walk to Portocello, which takes about 30 minutes and there is a foot path nearer to the town.

Not recommended.

After reading all the reviews, both good and bad, I decided that the good outweighed the bad and decided to go for it. Unfortunately, I didn't have a great experience here.
Firstly I decided to upgrade to a villa (they received a lot of good comments). The first one completely reeked of the drains, the others looked like that hadn't been used in quite some time and the balconies were tiny. So stuck with my basic sea view.
Nice view, room was small but adequate, the balcony was TINY! Room for just one chair, and one person standing! The aircon only works when your keycard is in the slot, so you don't have a cool room to return to - and regardless of the control in your room, the temp can only be set by reception.
Service - slow at best. Worse at weekends when they have conferences. And the English always seemed to get served after the Italians, regardless if they'd arrived before them!
Food - the restaurant is buffet style. Breakfast, no matter what time you arrived (even first thing!), the food was overcooked and cold. Dinner, not great either! The bistro is better, but it's the same every day. And if there's more than one of you, you get asked to book!!!
Across the road there's a little cocktail bar and taverna - MUCH better service, and cheaper prices - e.g. a small glass of wine in the hotel is 6 euros, but a LARGE glass of wine in the cocktail bar is only 5 euros. Food is better too.
Location - POOR. If you're happy to stay put in the hotel, and eat the "same old, same old", it's ok. If you like to walk, beware - the roads a treacherous. Drivers are mad! There are no shops, restaurants or bars to walk to. Someone referred to this hotel as "colditz" - I can now understand the sentiment, you kinda feel trapped.
Taxis - expensive and there are no standard tariffs. The same journey can vary from trip to trip, there's no bargaining with them! Across the road from the hotel Vincenzo and his son Rossario normal sit there in their minibuses and are much cheaper, and you can get a price before you get in. However I have been told they are uninsured.
Also the hotel tried to charge me an additional daily cost for my seaview room - a cost that I had already paid when booking this holiday. This happened to other travellers in the group too.
Rooms - all the seaview rooms can hear the entertainment in the bar at night. If you're an early night person or don't like the music - tough! However the entertainment stops by 11 o'clock.
