What People are saying

Excellent location

Janeda58 on 10/11/2017 13:29

Stayed three nights in beautiful sunny weather so really enjoyed the location right on the banks of the Tweed and adjacent to Dryburgh Abbey. Traditional Scottish hotel with good breakfast - we had a deluxe room which was in the top floor and very spacious..a bit disappointed with housekeeping but rest of the staff were very helpful and friendly. Small swimming pool -very warm and used by locals for lessons at published times - excellent sauna! Ate in the bistro twice - menu a bit limited but plenty of other places to eat nearby. Lots to see and do in the area with some great walks - would definitely recommend.

Welcoming,relaxing country house hotel.

We spent one night on a midweek break. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in the restaurant. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. The double room was comfortable with everything one might require. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice. The service was good and the setting is lovely.

In dire need of updating

Stayed here for one night, was a bit surprised by how dated and run down our room was to be honest. Needed new carpets, new beds, whole new bathroom which was really quite naff and the tiles need a good clean if not completely replaced. Some obviously had been replaced as they were different to the rest. Black grim in between the tiles.

The swimming pool is quite small but ok, however the floor was dirty and the lockers in the changing rooms are nearly all broken, the doors actually hanging off some.

We had tea in the Tweed restaurant which again has quite dated décor - the material on the chair was all ripped etc., food nice, staff nice. Over priced though. £55 for two mains, 2 drinks and 2 puddings. My main was nice but basically a small slice of quiche with a few green leaves on the plate.

Lovely setting, but all just a little tired these days

Having lived in the Borders for a number of years, and stayed/dined at the Dryburgh on more than a few occasions I was looking forward to staying here for an evening as we were attending a local wedding.

Staff couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming, and of course the setting by the Tweed and beside the abbey is quite stunning. However that's really where the good bits ended. While we had a reasonable room, the fixtures and fittings were relatively basic and the bathroom disappointing to say the least (felt like it could have done with a really good clean).

The hotel itself is desperately in need of refurbishment. It looks exceedingly dated. Such a shame as it's a stunning building with some fabulous spaces.

The worst bit, however, had to be the breakfast. We actually struggled to eat any of the full cooked breakfast. Not sure how long the components had been sitting on a hot plate - the ingredients were certainly not of a reasonable quality. And the coffee was the worst I've tasted in a long time.

Certainly won't be rushing back.

Great location, disappointing after that

The hotel is set in a very attractive country location next to the River Tweed and the ruins of Dryburgh Abbey. We had a very pleasant welcome at reception and went to our first floor rooms. They were both a good size but a bit tired looking. The children's room was slightly smaller and had a very good shower. Our room was bigger but had a narrow bath, which looked too small for the size of bathroom and was not good for having a shower in. Standards of cleanliness could be improved - a cobweb stayed where it was for the duration of our stay! The television in our room looked ridiculously small for the size of room.

We ate in the ground floor bistro 2 nights and the upstairs restaurant one night. The menu was the same in both places. The food was generally unexciting and bland, we were able to order burgers off the lunch time menu which tasted better than the other food. The haggis was very bland. Staff in the bistro were pleasant and helpful, in total contrast to the upstairs restaurant where the staff were bad tempered and unhelpful and forgot some of the order. We had a family group for the restaurant meal and when it came to pay they said they couldn't split the bill equally between parties, which seems incredible in this day and age. They had to go away and try and juggle orders to get to approximately the right amount for each group. Very embarrassing when you have invited people over. If you are going to have a restaurant with a dress code then you need to improve the menu and service

Breakfast was very disappointing with the quality of ingredients not apparently great. The bacon and sausages did not seem to be of the best quality and the omelette was not very tasty. The last morning we left before breakfast although we normally enjoy a full Scottish breakfast

The public areas fitted the general image of a country hotel - a bit dated but comfortable, although they were kept far too warm. There was a swimming pool , which we didn't use but it looked ok from the outside.

We would not return - memorable for all the wrong reasons
