What People are saying

Hotel and Restaurant are complementary

I have already made a comment on the restaurant. The hotel cannot be dissociated from the restaurant and vice versa. The rooms are very clean (+free wifi, TV, phone, mini bar...). We had room No 3 which was able to host 2 adults and one child (9 years old), but i think that it would be suitable for 3 adults. We really enjoyed our stay and I would recommend you to arrange your stay to being able to stay at the restaurant if you would like to enjoy the Alsacien spirit. Smooth hiking is only few hundred meters ago. Enjoy. Please note that the restaurant is closed on Monday.

Had a wonderful time, even extended our stay

This hotel was incredible. My girlfriend and I were cycling the Wine Route and had intended to stop here for one night, then head south to spend 2 nights in Colmar. Well, the bike ride from Strasbourg ended-up being a bit more punishing than expected on our untrained bodies, so we decided to cancel our reservation in Colmar and extend our stay in Barr at the Hotel-Restaurant du Chateau d'Andlau. What a blessing in disguise that turned-out to be. The hotel staff were supremely helpful and polite, assisting and accomodating two English-speaking Americans in all manner of things during our stay. The restaurant is great, chef Christian Boulard has put together an incredible menu that is creative, delicious, and satisfying. The location is beautiful, just 1.5km west of town, starting the climb into the mountains. There are hiking trails to explore, and castle ruins. The towns of Barr and Mittelbergheim are conveniently close for restaurants and, of course, winery visits. After 3 days of recovery, we went to Barr station, loaded our bikes onto the train back to Strasbourg, and left with high spirits and not an ounce of regret. You will not regret a stay here, either.

Beautiful location

This older hotel has a beautiful garden with a little river. In the past there was a watermill,
When sleeping the only thing you hear is the flowing water.
The breakfast is quite extensive (to French standards). There is also a restaurant, but it was closed ( on Monday ) when we were there.

Nice Hotel in a small valley

On the outskirts of the wine producing city Barr, secluded in a small vogesian valley at the foot of the Saint Odile and Champ du Feu plateaus, a quiet and comfortable hotel with good dining. It is a short drive from Strasbourg and caters to an international clientele.

Faded Rustic Charm!

I love the Alsace. You have the Germanic look and style without the (sometimes annoying), teutonic efficiency. Instead you have typical French laid back, somewhat faded charm.
I have reviewed the restaurant separately (excellent!), but this is just for the hotel. The rooms are large and comfortable, ours had a balcony and a skylight looking straight at the stars.
The hotel is in a beautifully wooded, scenic location. An idyllic place for an overnight stay. Would not hesitate to stay here again.
Only reason I haven't given 5 stars is due to a mix up over payment. We used one of those pre-paid currency cards. Due to the hotel staff never having seen one before, and a lack of English on their part, or French/German on ours, they messed up the payment. We effectively had to pay again by credit card and to cut a long story short, it tied up about 500 euros for several weeks.
Despite that, wonderful stay at a very pleasant rustic hotel in the Alsace.
