Interesting property

Booked hotel stay as husband was going to 'driving experience' locally. Arrived at hotel after a long drive and missed the entrance. The photos on the website gave the impression that this hotel was in large grounds with steps on the front lawn leading to the entrance. Sadly this was not the case as the hotel is on the main road with no footpath to the front of the property. Inside, the hotel is a converted house and has squeaky, uneven floors, very steep stairs, low doors and poor wi-fi due to the thickness of the walls. Our bed was a double that also suffered from the sloping floors (there were two in the bed and the little one said.......:-) Getting to the ensuite bathroom in the night was interesting - very uneven floors. The bathroom had the smallest shower and handbasin we have ever seen but the complimentary shower gel, soap, etc were a nice touch. We also had coffee making facilities with nice biscuits but the TV was lacking in channels - not that we watched it. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was plentiful and we did not have to wait very long for the full English. There is a small evening menu but the hotel staff do give directions to their sister restaurant a few minutes drive town the road. (we didn't go to that one). We walked downhill into Banbury and had a meal there - walking off the extra calories up the hill on the way back. We only stayed a couple of nights but met another couple who had booked for longer. If we had booked to stay longer we may have had to ask for a larger bed!!

Disappointing

Arrived here last Sat (8th Oct) for one night. This is a beautiful old house which looks very appealing from the outside, sadly it fell short on a number of points. Although there is a car park at the back it is very small and was full when we arrived. It is also poorly lit so be careful going out in the dark. We were greeted by a woman who insisted on finishing every sentence with 'love' , and she was quite officious and grumpy. Our room was small which was OK as we were only staying one night. It was very clean but I am surprised this is classified as a 4 star hotel. There were blankets on the bed, no duvet! The tea and coffee making facilities were basic to say the least , a kettle that wouldn't fit under the tap because the sink was the tiniest sink we had ever seen. 2 biscuits ! why bother.
The decor and furnishing in the room look like they have trawled charity shops.
The breakfast time on Sunday is only 8.15-9.15am which meant everyone was eating at the same time. The poor waitresses had to squeeze their way through a cramped breakfast room. The selection of cereals, fruit etc is really poor. Why put out an old unpeeled pineapple with a tin of prunes? My partner went for the full English which looked Ok. I requested two poached eggs but finally got given two boiled eggs. After having waited so long for the eggs I opted to keep them, only to find they were rock hard inside and the toast arrived much later.

Good central location

We arrived in the dark, not that easy to spot the sign. Walking out at night be careful as the steps from the front door with lawn and pretty garden either side, goes straight onto the busy main road - no pavement ! Cross the road and there is a pavement, then just a few minutes into the centre of Banbury. Good nights sleep despite being right on the main road. Room and breakfast were fine, although heating wasn't working in the room and it was a wet, slightly chilly night.

Good location at a reasonable price

My boyfriend and I stopped here for one night whilst visiting the area and it was as we expected. A quaint guest house which was clean and tidy and a decent size room with en suite. We slept well as the place seemed fairly quiet and the facilities overall were good.

Breakfast in the morning was served fairly early but after reading other reviews I guess that's because you have to leave before 10am. This didn't bother us but I was surprised about the 4pm check in. This seems very late.

We walked into Banbury for our evening meal, only a 10-15 min walk so perfect for a barmy evening in August.

Overall we would stay here again.

Lovely stay thank you

Visited as a stop off before we visited legoland with husband and two of my children. Nice welcome, room clean and well presented. Lovely bathroom which had obviously recently been updated. Good night's sleep and good breakfast. Couldn't ask for much more, thank you!
