What People are saying

A comfortable boutique hotel with great views

Barratt on 08/11/2017 00:05

Echoes is a comfortable boutique hotel on the edge of the Jamison Valley. It sits high on the escarpment with grand views over the Blue Mountains. All rooms share the view and we were enchanted by the panorama. Echoes is a short walk from the Echo Point tourist attraction. Well worth taking in...
Rooms are small and, to me, irregularly shaped. They open out onto a magnificent garden, a very pleasant place to sit on the wonderful spring days we enjoyed during our recent stay. Decor is classical, clean and tidy and the rooms have all the amenities expected from an expensive five-star offering. For those who are challenged by stairs, there is no elevator and more help might be provided with baggage. Parking is outdoor in the hotel’s forecourt.
We ate in the hotel restaurant. An interesting experience with dishes having distinct Asian influence, mainly Thai. Service is adequate and the menu is as one would expect. The restaurant is dominated by picture windows that display the beauty of the Blue Mountains to perfection.
Overall, we were not overwhelmed by Echoes and formed the conclusion that better value was available across the street.

What a treat.

Lovely hotel with an amazing view.
Rooms are spacious and well laid out.
High standard with personal and profesional service.
Walking distance to a lot of the major sights and walks and still just around the corner of Katoomba high street.
A top choice!

Great view but expensive and mediocre dining

This small hotel is next to its bigger sister hotel Lilianfels. The receptionist was a bit pushy trying to up sell breakfast at the bargain rate if $29 each as opposed to $35 each but only if we booked for whole stay. We declined. Room was nice enough, but not very large, and the balcony had great views but uncomfortable metal seats. That irritating thing of no bedside plugs to charge phones. There was in room tea and coffee, but better was the free room service plunger(cafetière) coffee.
We used the indoor heated pool at Lilianfels next door, it was actually a little too hot. The main disappointment was the upstairs restaurant. We had arrived about 4pm having driven from Sydney after flying in from UK so we wanted a little nap before dinner. However we were told last orders was at 20.30, and if we booked for 20.15 we might be rushed! We dined at 20.00. Only about 5 tables were occupied and the bar empty. There was only a set price meal at $85 for 2 courses and >$100 for 3 courses. They tried to rush us into ordering desert in advance but luckily we resisted. Fine dining started with a crouton with some whipped creamy stuff. My soft shell crab was soggy accompanied by two small scallops and a mountain of carrot and celeriac string soaked in. vinegar dressing. My barramundi was dry and overcooked sitting inna Thai broth with boiled potato and some vegetables. My wife’s stuffed courgette flower was rubbery and seemed to be mass produced. The next night we enjoyed a bottle if wine with some meat and cheese on our balcony and noticed that the restaurant was not open. Interestingly I also note the management stopped replying to Trip advisor reviews last June, makes you wonder if the manager and chef have changed? On our experience this was poor value, shame because its a nice albeit slightly remote location in the outer suburbs.

View is outstanding, hotel isn't

We stayed for a night on our way to Orange. The hotel is perfectly positioned on the edge of the cliff overlooking the wonderful valleys and hills.
Service is very respectful, feels like it has been designed for Asian visitors.
Our room was on the ground floor, a flight of steps down from reception, and had great access to the small but pretty garden. However it was small and the bed was small, a small queen, with hard sides. We both had a very disturbed night. It is a very expensive stay so it would be expected that it would be very comfortable.
The restaurant is on the top floor, up more steps, but has a great view.

Food to die for.

We had a girls weekend in the blue mountains to celebrate my sisters 40th birthday... we decided to come here for a special lunch with spectacular views... boy was it money well spent... not only the views was spectacular but the food was heavenly.... full of flavour.
My sister and I had the mushroom risotto and my other sister had the Angus beef steak and my mum had the burramundi. The risotto was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. My sister steak was cooked the way it was ordered.. medium rare... and she really enjoyed it. The burramundi was cooked well and was nice. (I tried some and liked it seeing has i don't like burramundi). Highly recommend this place.

Just a note: The restaurant is on the second floor. The bathrooms are on the ground floor. There is no lifts.
