What People are saying

Inexpensive place to stay

Tim B on 21/08/2017 07:26

This is a budget motel. Here are some pros and cons I noticed during a recent 7-day stay.

Cons:
1) The pool is unusable. It has leaves and trash floating in it.
2) The breakfast consists of strange-tasting donuts, bread that can be toasted, jam, room-temperature apple juice and mediocre coffee. No quality baked goods, fruit, milk, OJ or tea. The website states that the hotel offers a continental breakfast, but in reality it doesn't.
3) Service is mediocre. I repeatedly requested 4 towels for my family of 4, but the maid consistently left us 3.
4) The TV is an old-fashioned, pre-flatscreen model.
5) The motel needs major upgrades, it feels rundown.
6) If you're in the area to access San Francisco, you'll pay $10 per person roundtrip to take the BART into Embarcadero station in SF. (We didn't have a car.) And the motel is 1.5 miles from the Castro Valley BART station. We paid $7 with Lyft each time we went to or from the BART station.

Pros:
1) The price. We paid $89 a night, which is unheard of in San Francisco. We couldn't afford the extortionary prices most SF hotels charge.
2) The beds were fine. We slept well.
3) The place was relatively clean.
4) The hotel was quiet. We never had noisy neighbors, in fact we heard almost nothing from our neighbors.
5) There's a small mall right across Castro Valley Blvd. with a Safeway.

In sum, since I still can't afford the hotel prices that SF hotels charge, I would probably stay here again. With a family of four, however, we paid $54 daily in transportation costs that we would've avoided if we'd stayed in SF. So I would factor that into the comparison between staying in SF and in Castro Valley.

clean kinda, not 100% accurate

samanddave1977 on 16/08/2017 21:02

stayed here because it was a little bit less then the other hotels closer in to San Francisco, has hot tub, pool, parking and cont breakfast. The breakfast was not worth it, parking was included which was great, but 20 miles away from the Giants stadium ended up taking over an hour...not the hotels fault, but might be helpful info for the website for prospective guests.
Hot tub was out of order and the pool was tiny! Also our last night we ended up leaving at 11pm to drive back to Washington, because the adjoining room had people fighting really loudly and when I tried to call the front desk it was busy, so upon walking down there no one was there. I was so frustrated we just left. Would not stay there again. The bedding was kinda clean...

Very Disappointed

Viva65Plus on 13/08/2017 09:27

Stopped overnight during a 10-day road trip. We've been staying at Choice Hotel properties all over for the last 10 years, but this was the most disappointing stay, except for the fresh donuts at the breakfast.

Maybe because it was a Reward Point stay, we were given the last ground floor no-smoking 2-queen room at the end of the second building in the back of the property. Room was clean but needed overhaul, just as outside of the second building. Desk chair seat was torn in several places showing the padding, and both bedcovers had cigarette burn holes. There was no closet (hanger hooks on the wall only), and no luggage rack, and had to ask for one. Then, was given one from another room, with a broken strap.

There was no WiFi signal throughout the night and in the morning, though my husband got very good signal in his main building room near the office. He was paying Senior/AARP rate for his room.

We requested ground floor rooms when we booked online, because all three of us no longer can manage stairs, and called around noon to confirm the request. We must say we appreciated we were given ground floor rooms as requested.

If you need a room in the area, it's better to shop around for better rates and better properties, with better reviews.

Quaint and clean

Cmikey915 on 08/08/2017 23:30

I recently stayed at this hotel for two days. It was clean and quaint. The room did not have an odor, and it was quiet. The Queen size bed was comfortable. I did not eat breakfast here, but there are several food locations nearby. Some even walking distance. If I am back in this area, I will more than likely stay here again.

Good for a night stay

Stayed for a night with my mom to attend a graduation at UC Berkeley.
The facade of this place is not impressive. The lobby doesn't look clean not welcoming . To top it all, the person at front desk was not good at customer service. However, the room was clean.
Breakfast was offered - doughnuts and coffee that we skipped.
