Evacuation from Hurricane Irma Priced Gouged!

Worst place ever! They took Advantage of us impacted by hurricane Irma! Shame on this hotel's management!!!!
Needed a room because Hurricane Irma 9/2017 due to power outage in most of Florida.
Econo Lodge in Crystal River, FL was the Only place available. I booked the room through ChoiceHotel.com. I was guaranteed a room for $70. I paid & reserved room with credit card. Now rooms are advertised at $60!
When I arrived, I was told that I could not pay with credit card but had to pay Cash with a $100 cash deposit! Desk clerk charged me $89+ tax for room instead of the original quoted price of $70. I was also told I had to call choicehotel.com & cancel reservation so I wouldn't pay twice! Unbelievable!
When I arrived there was a line at a tiny outside window. We had to stand in the heat to wait for our check in. They had the air conditioned lobby door locked!
When checking in I was told that pool was not available due to the hurricane, that was fine. I was also informed they didn't have cable or wifi! Needing air conditioning & a bath, I took the room.
The room smelled like cat urine, sink had whiskers in it & bedding smelled of body sweat!
There was also not enough outlets to charge phones & other devices.
I realize this hotel must be very old and outdated but it is in dire need of a makeover! Also being old is NO excuse for cleanliness!!!
I feel Econo Lodge in Crystal River, FL took advantage of those impacted by hurricane Irma by raising the on line quoted price & the cash payment demand with $100 deposit when ATM's are not working.
Shame on Econo Lodge!!!!
This place is an absolute Dump! Seriously people do a make-over to the rooms, beds & wash sheets AFTER each person!!!! STOP gouging customers during a disaster!!!!
I decided after 3 hours to face the inconvenience of no power & 90 degree heat rather than stay in this dump! And although others were trying to check in, I did NOT get a refund or even partial refund!
I left behind 2 things in my room & tried to call front office but no one will answer phone, they just let it ring.
Camp out or stay in your car before staying here! I saw that just a month before I stayed here they had a bedbug problem! What a DUMP & RIP OFF!!!

Scalloping trip

I booked 3 rooms here for a family scalloping trip. The rooms were clean and they even kept us all together. I chose this place because of the price and because of it being only 1 floor. Parking is directly on front of your door, very convenient. The complementary breakfast was coffee packaged pastries and toast. There was enough room to park boats along the pool fence and there is also additional parking for boats in the north open lot next to the hotel property. The boat launch is only about 15-20 mins away. The Wi-Fi was not so good, and the same for cell reception, but if you go outside you'll BBC just fine. They accommodated buckets for the cleaning of the scallops, out you choose to do that at your room. The beds were good and everything worked in all of our rooms. This is only an ecno lodge so don't expect resort amenities. But it was clean, comfortable, affordable and we had fun as a family. Ill come back.

Unfriendly staff without any information about the area

The room and beds were o.k. but for the rest, the lodge is unattractive and my kids even didn't feel at ease because of the other visitors hanging around at the compound. At arrival the staff was extremely unfriendly and couln't answer any questions about the surroundings.

Clean and tidy

We spent 1 night at this motel before swimming with manatees . It was clean and tidy , the wi fi was terrible. The bed was very soft - which I don't particularly like but that is my preference.The pool was nice after a long drive. Complimentary breakfast was ok. Overall this motel did the job we needed and was very affordable. The reception staff were nice and friendly.

Very nice motel for a short stay

This comfortable motel provides good beds and a nice pool area where we had much fun. The well prepared and very friendly receptionist was a nice guy.
Very clean and mid-size rooms are more than sufficient for a group of 6 tourists on a road trip.
