OK...yes...it's a budget-brand motel. But I regret booking this for a one-night stay. Was surprised to see a sign that said no pets, though it was listed as pet-friendly on several online booking sites. I mentioned having a dog that would be crated in the room when I booked. No one got back to me about the motel's pet policy. Wound up with an extra $15 charge for my dog, who was well-behaved, unlike some of the guests who were booked next to my room. Was plagued by noise for most of the night. First problem was key card--it didn't work; had to be re-keyed & still didn't work. The room had an odd, unpleasant smell, and was hot, because air conditioning was not on, despite it being a hot day. Bed linens were terrible--very uncomfortable mattress, no top sheet, coverlet of rough material that left me feeling itchy most of the next day. Water had slightly rusty tint and awful taste. Tried to get water from a soda machine--machine was dated and malfunctioned. TV reception not great for cable channels. Only positive was the gentleman at the front desk--was helpful about the keycard. Wished I had booked elsewhere. Way too expensive a night for too little quality.

Better than expected!

I was expecting much worse. The area of town is nothing great, but I didn't feel unsafe. The room was perfectly acceptable and the bathroom looked like it was semi-updated. The breakfast area was very cramped, but the food was decent. A middle-aged man was working the night shift at the front desk and he was very friendly!!

It's not worth it despite price unless you like fruit flies, bad smells, no drinking water, & particles in bed sheets

I really, really regret staying at this hotel. I should have listened to the other reviews I saw. My motivation was that I needed an inexpensive place to stay for two days. I thought I’d get lucky and everything would be fine. It wasn’t.

My colleague and I stayed in different rooms at the same time. I had a double non-smoking upstairs (no elevators at this hotel) and she had a king bed smoking room on the street level floor.

I had over 10 fruit flies in my room. I killed 6 of them. I asked my colleague about fruit flies and she said that she certainly had some but didn’t keep count like I did. She was surprised I mentioned them because she thought they were unique to her room since she left the door open for fresh air a few minutes the day before.

Their breakfast breads (mini bagels) were under a plastic thing that had lots of fruit flies inside of it. There was NO way I was going to touch any of that bread. The point is for the plastic thing to protect the bread and keep out, not trap them inside. There were bananas which were good but most of the apples had bruises or some brown dent. There were also some plastic wrapped pastries that look like they came out of a vending machine or dollar store. The waffles were good. All I ended up eating were the waffles because I could make them myself and the banana because even though the flies were flying around them, I could rinse them off and unpeel it. The coffee was OK. There was only vanilla creamer.

The second day at 8:30am there was no creamer left in the container. I asked the person at the front desk if we could have some more and it wasn’t possible. Apparently the manager keeps everything locked up tight so all the supplies pretty much are locked away and the staff doesn’t have access to them. What sense does that make? If the employees are there to serve us customers, why does the hotel owner and manager keep the very supplies their employees need to serve us locked away?
I’ve never been to a hotel in my life that didn’t have access to drinking water.

On my first day I asked the front desk for drinking water because the juice machine didn’t have a water button. The front desk person acknowledged it and said they didn’t have water to drink. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager, Jay [--] explained that they changed their juice machine and that their new one didn’t have water or that the water thing broke or something like that. He said they haven’t had water in a while. I didn’t need a long explanation about why they didn’t have drinking water, what I wanted was to have drinking water. I expect drinking water just like I expect pillows and sheets on the bed. I never fathomed even an inexpensive hotel wouldn’t have the bare, very bare necessities. The manager was full of excuses, no empathy and no solution.

I knew, in my mind if I spoke to the owner instead, that that person would have better leadership skills to know that not having a working machine isn’t an excuse. That they can purchase water bottles or a gallon or water to have out to guests or some alternative. They could even offer a discount or something for not having what you’d expect a hotel would have. When I asked for the owner, the manager replied that he was the owner. I clarified with him because the way he said it wasn’t convincing. He then admitted that he wasn’t the owner, but that his mother was the owner and because of that he was basically the owner.

All I can say is that I hope his mother, the owner reads this. Having her son in charge of her hotel and making excuses instead of giving customer service (seriously, getting drinking water for guests isn’t that difficult, but maybe apparently it is). I felt like he was shortchanging guests and trying to justify short changing us by saying it’s the juice machine’s fault because he didn’t want to spend a few dollars to pick up some drinking water for the breakfast area (even though we’re paying for it through our hotel bill). Another reason I hope his mother reads this is because there are many, many other negative reviews. If she really values her business, which I imagine she does, I hope she considers either re-training her son/manager or hiring someone who can better represent the type of service and upkeep of her hotel that she expects. I understand that that’s her son, but I did not experience any decent level of customer service or leadership skills from this man. The kind of service he gave me was the type I’d expect from a gas station attendant or something like that, not a hotel manager – even an inexpensive type of place. As I said, the other two employees were very nice and professional and as helpful as possible. I’m also not trying to say all of this in a mean way, this is just my honest experience and how I feel. Again, I really wish I would have listened to the other reviews.

That’s not all. When I went to get into bed, the sheets looked dirty. There were these little stuff, dirt or some type of particles. I went to the other bed since I had a double. The other bed’s sheets were fine. In my bathroom there were paint drywall textures on the walls that made me think something had been wrong and someone who didn’t know what they were doing just tried to fix it themselves, seeing clearly that it didn’t look right and not caring.

The fridge and microwave were good; no problems there. The light in the bathroom had lots of dead insects inside. While laying down and swatting at the fruit flies attacking me, it was hard to go to sleep. As I lay there, I started smelling something really bad. I ended up opening the drawer next to the bed and found the cause. It looked like someone spilled something in it and no one bothered to really clean it up. I took pictures of the wall stuff I’m talking about, the breakfast area, smelling drawer, particles in the bed sheets etc.

My point is that I’m short on cash and I needed the cheapest reasonable place. I thought Econo Lodge Easton would be a good bet, but I was regretfully very wrong. I don’t have a lot of money to spare but I will pay more to stay at one of the other hotels nearby when I come back in two weeks. Oh – speaking of which I cancelled my reservation I had to come back, no way I can stay here again. As short as I am with money right now the fruit flies buzzing around me, harassing me as I sleep, being all over the breakfast food, no drinking water, lack of customer service and overload of excuses without solutions – it’s just not worth it. Do not stay here.

Don’t just take my word for it, there are other reviews. Do yourself a favor and find someplace else. In life, bad things happen that we just can’t avoid and when they do we have to stand up and do our best to get through it. This hotel and the manager Jay [--] are bad things that you have the choice and opportunity to avoid entirely. I’m telling you sincerely and honestly not to take a chance here, despite the inexpensive factor, it’s not worth it.

Try someplace else

I booked through booking.com (evidently a mistake, should have used TripAdvisor). I was traveling with my 9-year-old grandson, a fact which I stated when booking. Booking.com sent me a confirmation with the info that a smoking room had been booked for me. A smoking room with a 9-year-old kid!!. After an e-mail to booking.com and a call direct to the hotel stating that a smoking room was unacceptable, I still got a smoking room and it was awful!! When we arrived the air-conditioning had been turned down to 60 degrees, probably to try to cover up the stench. That was not effective. To be fair, the room itself was suitable - a fridge and a microwave, decent shower, etc. We left out breakfast, just glad to get away.

Good Value, Not the Greatest Experience

Let me be fair. It's obvious that the hotel has been taking guest feedback seriously and striving for improvement and the price of this motel is very very reasonable. The staff was also very polite and friendly, although check-in and check-out were slow, because they seem to be understaffed. Our room had new paint, new modern furniture and flat screen television, new light fixtures and décor and newish bathroom fixtures and carpet. There were no holes in the walls and no signs of mold, mildew or rust. The room smelled strongly of Febreeze or some other air deodorizer, but it was manageable. Where the motel fell short for us is when the roaches came out!! Yes, our room had roaches. I saw three of them in the room during our stay. To be even more fair, no other guests complained of roaches and I have not seen any complaints of them here, so it may have been that the room next to ours appeared to be where they stored the food for their complimentary breakfast, which in of itself is pretty gross. we skipped breakfast there. For this reason, I probably would not stay at this location again. I would certainly never eat the breakfast though.
