This was a hard one to put a score on. I really want a "Fair" rating. The Econolodge is, imo, definitely not Average, but neither is it Poor. Having to choose one or the other, I choose Average entirely because of a positive encounter when we checked in.
The region overall is very economically depressed and my expectations for lodgings were not high. We were looking for someplace clean and inexpensive and safe. We drove into this hotel by accident, because it was dark and I thought it was some place else. I didn't realize my mistake until we had checked in and gone to our room. By that point we were too tired to really care.
When I checked in the man in reception chatted with me about the town, the region, and shared insights about the differences between Bluefield VA and Bluefield West VA. He gave me recommendations about where we could find a place to eat late in the evening (VA, not WVA) and where to go to get a nice view of the countryside (and it is a beautiful countryside). It was a very enjoyable conversation.
The room was clean. It was well lit. When we had trouble figuring out how to start the A/C the man from reception came by immediately and showed us what we needed to do.
The less positive things: The bed wasn't very comfortable - I'd say the mattress was probably old and thus didn't have a lot of support. Not bad enough to prevent sleeping, so, for the price I was ok with that. But the Internet, although free, was almost unuseable. Sometimes it worked, other times it either dropped the signal or was so slow that my web page would start spinning and stay spinning so long I gave up. Thus I was unable to reliably check my email and definitely not able to take care of a few work tasks I had counted on completing.
We were there more than one night - the first morning there was a basic continental breakfast in the lobby. The next morning the same food appeared to still be there from the day before and there was no one in the reception area; we checked back a few times.
So ... overall? My view was skewed by the fact that I hadn't planned on staying at the least expensive place in town (from what I could tell later by looking on TripAdvisor!). I didn't really need the continental breakfast but I was expecting it the second day. The terrible Internet was a real problem for me.
If you want one of the least expensive places in town, a place that is clean, and safe and you aren't too picky about the bed, internet or in real need of coffee and carbs on the way out the door in the morning, then you will be fine with the EconoLodge. Otherwise, you might want to check out one of the other places up the street.

Stayed here with our kids while traveling to TN and it's exactly what we expected for the price, no frills. Breakfast could have had a few more options but the place was pretty clean and close to the highway.

Very difficult parking lot due to the grade when one is on a motorcycle. As we dismount, all we can hear is a dog barking non stop in one of the rooms. Go to check in,,, slow process, owner starts to tell us that we should NOT book with Hotel's . com, or any other online booking agency. call him direct, or on Choice. Really Bud??? We comment on the dog barking,
"from where, what room?, I only put the dogs near the back" He was good enough to give us a room AWAY from the dog barking. Room was not bad, however as we are unloading, a friend in the area contacts us, says, "OH NO, you are not staying there, I get you a room at the Comfort Inn. In fairness, we did not stay, so cannot comment on the breakfast, nor anything else. Will we be back, no.

I booked this motel months ago for the price and close proximity to major highways. I was warmly received on a wet and rainy Friday in early September. The driveway into the motel is challenging - being on a blind corner and the incline an experience on a motorcycle. The room was basic, but clean and bring on the ground floor; easy to unload my motorcycle. The staff was very pleasant and provide directions to some local points of interest. Although not a five star motel, it was not only just as advertised, but better than one would expect at this price point. I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment to a budget conscious traveller.

This place could use sprucing up from top to bottom....walkways in need of paint, lawn needs to be mowed, trash on lawn needs to be picked up, breakfast consists of packaged danish or toast, coffee or tea.....that's it, maybe some cranberry juice....the room is OK and clean which is the important part.....the good is KFC and bowling ally is next door and Tudor's country biscuit is across the street for breakfast......
