We had a two day's stay at Edakkal Hermitage. Rooms are build over the caves and many trees and plants are around..you cant see the other cottage or people around, literally no human interaction, just you and the nature! Rooms are neat and clean, not fan, dental kit, ac, coffee maker, iron box; it's fine but dental kit was a must have. Resort is very near to edakkal caves and in wayanad all places are scattered , so you will have to drive down around 30-50km to all the places (case is same even if you book any other hotel). Room service is available upon request. Very safe at night too, you relax in the sit out area and listen to the nature and best part is that no mosquito attack. Food is very expensive, yet tasty. View of valleys, will depend on your luck, depends on which room you get. Private parking space is there. Best place to relax, you really don't feel like leaving the place. A walk through the premises is a must.

I have stayed in green mountains of Tennessee, County Cork, and the Olympic peninsula, but Wayanad is the most stunning place I've ever stayed. The view from Edakkal Hermitage outdoes any notion you have of the word "green."
Days at the hermitage start with a misty breath of the valley accompanied with an opera of birds enjoying the view. Herbal coffee and chai get served to the rooms before breakfast, which usually consists of Kerala specialties like Puttu, a warm rice-based roll that can be served with bananas or chili, and Appam, which is a delicious flatbread usually served with vegetable stew.
Throughout the day, the clouds shift through the valley and around the mountaintops, which you can explore on foot or with a guide. I went for a motorcycle ride with Sarath, a local tour guide that grew up in the area, and had one of the most memorable adventures I could have asked for.
The sun set should absolutely be seen from the Hermitage - there's nothing quite like sitting on your porch and watching the yellow light peaking through the clouds and mist of the Western Ghats.
For dinner, chef Subhramanem cooks up any kind of Kerala specialty with all of the local flavors and tastes. You can have dinner in a cave surrounded by 100 candles, which adds to the magic of eating food that feels like it was made for a home in a beautifully wild setting.
Be sure to talk to Jins and Vishnu for extra advice on how to spend a perfect vacation in Wayanad. They both are incredibly welcoming and accommodating, and work very hard to give you an unforgettable experience. With their help, you can eventually feel like Kerala is a second home.

It was a nice place near the edakkal cave, the candle light dinner was awsome.
Small hurts give a gigantic view of the valley.
The staffs are good

If only views matter, I would give this place a 4.5 stars, but other things matter too.
Views/surroundings: As I mentioned earlier, views are awesome, especially from the Lascaux cottage and the one above it. You get the full valley/mountain view. If you get up early in the morning, you may witness some mist in the surroundings too. Surroundings are quiet, except during weekends, where there is a lot of crowd visiting Edakkal caves and it generally becomes noisy with traffic/people.
Rooms: Bed and bathroom was good. Neat and Clean. No TVs in the room. So beware if you are expecting one. We did not miss TV much for few people it matters. Cottages are spread across various places and at different heights, so you may need to climb uphill to meet your friends in case you are traveling with your friends.
Food: Average. Won't call it a great food too. Was expecting some more variety in the breakfast - we got only bread omelette and puttu. They don't serve food in room and you need to climb 100 meters to reach to the dining area. So if you are expecting a fully relaxing trip, think again. Otherwise not bad for young folks.
They don't serve food on an impromptu demand, so if you need, you have to inform well in advance. Moreover, we opted for a dinner, which was Rs. 400/= per person, I would rate it on the higher side given the food price around and given the variety/quality they serve.
There is no power backup, in case there is a power cut in the evening, you may need to sit in dark without fans. Be close to the nature :)
Manager/Staff were nice, well-behaved and co-operative. Serving staff did not understand English much.
The resort is located around 200 meters steep uphill. Our taxi driver refused to drive the vehicle upwards so we had to walk. But the road is drive-able.

Edakal Caves and the Engravings takes you to an Eric Von Dainiken world of Alien theories and Gods from Outer space. At the foot hills of Edakal cave hills is an enthralling wild piece of land with a few cottages clinging on to the rock edges with an amazing view of valleys of the western ghats. Very much of an experience resort, the property has a good population of birds of all feathers. An early morning walk through the overgrown coffee plantations and tall trees, with mist all around elevates your mind to a vibrant mode with the rising sun. The restaurant serves limited dishes, but exclusively authentic to its region, but do have an enthusiastic chef to cater to your needs. Need your own mode of transport to enjoy this place and surroundings. Friendly people to take care of you!!!! ( A BLESSING WHEN NIGHT FALLS )!!!!! ITS A DIFFERENT WORLD!!!!!! You must Experience to Explain the Ecstasy !!!! Edakal Caves holds the secrets to the eternal link between mankind and the unknown!!! And the Edakal Hermitage is the right place to feel the UNKNOWN!
