Amazing Sri Lanka!

We had a nine days holiday at Eden Resort and Spa in november 2017: me, my husband and my mother. We had All Inclusive with superior room with ocean view(due to the "u" shape of the resort facing the ocean, all rooms had an ocean view). The room was very clean(they cleaned it twice a day) and had fresh towels, toileteries, nice shower and bathroom and a free safe. The moment we arrived we were welcomed with fresh fruit cocktails.
The resort itself is spotless with squirells running all around, lots of palmtrees and right in front of the Moragalla public beach. We were provided with pool towels(which, by the way, you could not take them at the beach due to the fact that it was a public one). Moragalla beach doesn't have shallow blue waters because Bentota River(brown water) is flowing directly into the ocean and that point is right in front of the resort so for beach days we choose to cross the river in 2 minutes by boat, paying jus 1$ and stay on Bentota Beach that was amazing(with big waves, shallow waters, lots of palmtrees and jungle along the side).
The food was good and fresh every day. They had a lot of traditional Sri Lankan and Maldivian meals but also international. Eighter way, one couldn't have starved.
The location is good, meaning that the resort is 2 minutes away from the main road town of Aluthgama(i think....because i haven't been able to understand the structure of Sri Lanka districts/towns) but the town itself is very mainstream and hadn't have lots of options for shopping or eating(thats why we were so pleased that we chose All Inclusive).
And now the trips!
We met beach boy Aruna Perera (on the beach) and chose to do all the trips with him because he seemed to know all about Sri Lanka and their religion. We did not make a mistake!!!! He is an amazing person! First he took us to a (bonus) short river boat safari were we saw crocs, a spice garden and literally felt like we were on an expedition like the ones that are made on Amazon River. After that, we established the conditions for the other personalised trips that we chose to do: a two days trip that included safari in Yala National Park, buddhist temples, small Sri Lanka villages, turtle hatchery, moonstone mine, Jungle Beach near Galle, Galle Fort, standing fishermans, beautiful hotel with dinner and breakfast in Tissamaharaha(near Yala) and beer for my husband and Aruna :) The trip was ireal! We somehow managed to se the leopard in Yala. It was the highlight of the vacation!
The second trip was one day in Kandy were we saw the Tooth Temple, tea and rice plantations, tea factory, fruit plantations aaand....we got to ride the elephant near the elephant orphenage!!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
Another small trip with Aruna was in the small towns near by our hotel with his tuk-tuk. We had the chance to buy ourselves a sari for me, a traditional pashmeena for my mother and a traditional clothing for men that my husband wanted so much.
The beach days were always nice because Aruna came with his dogs and his two little daughters and we felt like family with him.
The night before checking out we were invited to Aruna's house to dinner and meeting the family. It was an amazing experience and the fresh food coocked by Aruna's wife....WOW!!! He even brought us small gifts to remember him. We were really impressed that one could be that nice and friendly with some strangers AFTER buying the trips.
All in all was an amazing experience and i recommend from the bottom of my heart going to Sri Lanka!
Maybe next time i would choose another resort/hotel because i noticed that the south part of the island is more europeanized with long beautifull beaches and lots of restaurants (not as much as Beruwala).

A very nice 4*+ Resort on the West Coast of Sri Lanka

The resort is about 12 years old. It is at 2 H driving from Colombo Int Airport. All rooms are with sea view. They are very big and nice and well kept. Wifi is good. Staff is very friendly and kind. Nice beach, small pool. Breakfast average, dinner ok. It offers BB, HB and All Inclusive. The resort gives a good value for money.

Terrible experience at the Eden resort and spa booked through Emirates Holidays

Our flight, transfers and accommodation for our trip to Sri Lanka was booked and arrange through Emirates Holidays. On arrival in Sri Lanka we were taken to our airconed minivan for our transfer to our resort in Beruwala. It was a 2 hour journey from the airport to the Eden Resort and Spa in Beruwala. At no stage during the journey did our driver offer us any water to drink even though we had just got off a flight where we were not allowed to bring any liquids in our hand luggage. It was also extremely hot and humid and a cold bottle of water would have been a very welcome and kind gesture. Our driver took the coastal route, so we were able to see the ocean for most of the drive. The scenery was breath taking. At least 10 days prior to our departure our travel agent emailed the Eden resort and spa to request inter-leading rooms and rooms in a quiet section of the resort. She received no response from the resort. If only we knew that this would be just the beginning of a nightmare stay at this resort. The Eden Resort and Spa is definitely not a 4 or 5 star resort. We have stayed at many resorts in India, China, Phuket, Malaysia and Hong Kong, but this was by far the worst experience we have ever had. Firstly the rooms were not clean, there were cockroaches and the air conditioner gave off a damp, mouldy smell. We complained, but since we left the hotel early each morning for our tours and only returned at about 9 pm, we never seemed to get the same staff on duty. After our complaints fell on deaf ears we decided to cut one of our tours short to ensure that we could first deal with the room issues. We demanded to see the manager and got him to first check the computer to see the list of complaints that we had registered. Thereafter we took him up to the rooms to inspect it. He had to agree that the cleanliness and the awful smell were unbearable. He then got house- keeping to address the problem and clean the air filters of the aircon. The problem was resolved in my room 307, but not in my sister room 308. The hotel's solution was then to mask the foul odour, by putting on glade air fresheners in the room. My sisters then resolved to not use the aircon at all, but rather to open the balcony doors. This was problematic, as the squirrels then came into the room. On our last day the manager said they would see what they could do about changing my sister's room. At this stage it really was too late. The other gripe we had was that our rooms were allocated close to the pool and bar and we were only able to sleep after 1 am in the morning because of the live band that played every night. We had to leave most mornings at 5 am for our day tours. So we were forced to survive on 3 hours sleep a day. The beaches are red flagged at this time of year, which meant we could not swim in the ocean. We would definitely not recommend this resort to anyone and avoid room 308 at all costs. I sincerely hope that Emirates Holidays would review their recommendation of this hotel and would address our concerns with the resort, so that another family does not have to have same experience that we had.

Sea view room with peaceful atmosphere

We stayed here for 3 days and it was a very comfortable stay. Rooms were clean. The pool area was beautiful and the staff was cooperative and polite. The buffet breakfast and food at the other cafes was also good.

Nice cool place to enjoy your relax time

I went with my family for a holiday getaway. Once of our most wanted destination for last 5 years which we couldn't go.

Enjoyed the stay and pool area and uncommon shape of the hotel gave us a better view in sea / and land too.
