What People are saying

Simply Wonderful

Lesley Bon 02/11/2017 16:29

Spent a couple of days in at Ees Wyke and I honestly wished it had been longer.

Just outside the village of Near Sawrey, Ees Wyke is in the most beautiful setting. Nestled in a valley commanding the most wonderful views over nearby Esthwaite Water, you will feel that you have come to visit a very special place. For a long time this area of the Lakes has always been special.

My room was on the top floor with a window facing out onto Esthwaite Water and the valley beyond. Simply breathtaking. The room was extremely clean and very cozy. There were the usual coffee and tea making facilities with the very thoughtful addition of a decanter with sherry in for those who wish to have a small drink after a day of walking. There are bath robes provided which were handy. Other thoughtful extras were little things like cotton wool buds and pads, things I often forget.

I was able to do a walk thanks to the leaflet in my room with a pictorial route around the village, Even I couldn't go wrong with this!

Food? Oh my goodness! I only had breakfast however I do wish that I had looked at the evening meal option as the menu looked wonderful. Everything for breakfast was perfect and I honestly think that the fussiest person would have found it difficult to complain, there was much to choose from. I went for porridge followed by poached eggs on toast - wonderful! I was travelling alone however didn't feel uncomfortable as the other guests on both mornings were very friendly. Breakfast and evening meals are taken in the beautiful dining room......the views.

I must add here how friendly and helpful the staff are. Nothing is too much trouble. Thanks again Richard for the lift into Hawkshead!

Thank you for the most wonderful stay, Quiet, great food and accommodation in the most perfect setting.

Stunning, even small details taken care of.

Absolutely beautiful setting, stunning views. The period house is so full of character with many original features. It is so peaceful and quiet. The views from the rooms are lovely, looking down towards the lake with mountains in the background. On arrival we were given a warm welcome with tea and coffee served in one of the lounges. The room was beautifully decorated. The complementary decanter of sherry is a nice touch. Plus other little extras in the room. The room was spotlessly clean. After a comfortable nights sleep, the breakfast is amazing. A selection of fresh fruit, freshly baked home made croissant and bread. Would definitely recommend the fruit bread. Also try the fresh porridge with cream and a dash of whiskey. A good selection of cooked breakfast, which is all locally sourced. The evening meal was equally good. The quality and freshness of the produce used really stands out and so well cooked. The owner, Richard is a friendly gentleman, and his years of experience stands out. The young lady Caroline gives a warm welcome and and has a prefessional manor while dealing with the guests. This is definitely a place we would recommend to stay.

Just returned from a 2 night stay with my husband, and i cannot praise Ees Wyke enough, the room we were allocated overlooked Lake Windermere and what a view to look at while having a morning cuppa, room was spotless everything you could possibly need and if by any slight chance you do need anything you only have to ask. The breakfast was amazing such a great selection of cold buffet..cereals yogurts fruits and much more, The hot Cumbrian breakfast was delicious all made to order and so good, service was never rushed you could stay eating/drinking at your table taking in the views, i have left the staff comments until last, because they were outstanding, Nothing to much trouble, asking if you have had nice evening ect, the little touches that make a establishment not good but great, i do also have to meantion the young lady who served us breakfast this morning, so bubbly, polite and a joy to have serve you, real credit to Ees Wyke, i cannot wait until we can come back for our 2nd visit very soon.Thank you to all at Ees Wyke x

Everything that needs to be said about this excellent hotel has already been said. We would just like to add one more special comment though. Late in the evening and by special request, if you get a chance to meet Milo, the dog, take it. Beware though, given half a chance he will lick you to death! He is also very large and cuddly! Loved every minute of our encounter.
Oh yes, Beatrix Potter stayed here too.
