What People are saying

Very disappointing experience for a 3.5 star in Mexico (Cozumel)

Kriszon on 21/11/2017 00:24

We purchased a 7 days all inclusive package in this hotel mid November 2017. Since it was a 3.5 we had very low expectations but… we did not expect to have lower standards than the 4 star in Cuba (May 2017).
*** PROS:
Comfortable king bed with very large room, nice swimming pools, overall clean hotel facilities despite the outdated look. Fun mini-golf and nice ocean view from the rooms and from the buffet restaurant (The coral). Front-desk and tour-desk staff friendly and helpful. Good parking lot for rentals. 10 minutes by car or 45 minutes walk to downtown or 95 pesos by taxi. Hotel felt safe.

*** CONS:
>>> FOOD & DRINKS: One A la carte and one buffet restaurant with poor selection of food and poor menu. Coffee: Basic regular coffee available but would need a quality upgrade and missing a good coffee expresso machine. Broader selection of bread missing, no cheese selection or cold cuts. Wine is basic served in plastic cups at the buffet diner table. Two unknown selection of beer are served, watered down like the rest of their drinks.
>>> FACILITY: Poor/Missing entertainment, Gym has 3 machines poorly maintained (I would be scared to use), game room facility not indicated properly has 2 ping pong tables, 1 old soccer table and a pool table. I picked this hotel to snorkel but definitely ended up going out of the hotel to enjoy better snorkeling areas (Punta Sur, Money beach bar and Palancar beach). Beach is very small, the volley-ball court is not usable. Poor service overall at the buffet except for José.
>>> BEDROOM: Worn out pillows and blankets. TV remote not working, shower head broken and missing water pressure. Outdated stained furniture in room and in lobby. Safe in the room is provided but is small and barely fits the S2 android tablet 9 inch screen. The safe is locked with a key not a code, so you always need to carry it with you. If lost you would pay 100 USD. No fridge in the room, you can rent one though.
>>> BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT was being stopped by the bell boy while exiting the hotel with our beach towels visible. He advised us that the hotel beach towels cannot be taken outside the hotel despite the fact that we signed the hotel paper which indicated that if lost, we would have to pay 25 USD per towel. The front desk manager confirmed this rule, so we ended up purchasing our own. However, this rule did not seem to apply to everybody. So I guess this all inclusive hotel is a BRING YOUR OWN BEACH TOWEL if you plan to go enjoy other Cozumel beaches.
So overall I would rate the hotel 3 stars for low customer service, low quality of products and outdated facility.

Disappointed

The service was ok but the rooms was not worth the money paid I felt like we were staying at a shack beds were very hard no hot water the A/C broke twice and they were not helpful in changing our rooms .. and the food was disappointing I thinks we lost weight being there would not go back.

Great service and awesome view !

We took a large group of Divers and non divers to this resort and loved it. The on-site dive shop is well stocked and made it so nice for advice and gear. Very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The food was outstanding and the staff made sure everything was perfect. The pools and beach are very well maintained and beautiful. There’s no such thing as a bad view from this place ! We are already planning another group trip here ! Highly recommended !

Cozumel was great

This resort is rated as a 3*, but it had better service than any 5* I have been at!!..Great staff, especially in the a-la-carte. Room was spacious and had a spectacular view of the ocean. Beach was small, but well maintained. There were too many mosquitoes during the evening meals, but we had been warned and took bug spray.

Good experience

We visited Mexico for the first time on November 2017 and we stayed at El Cozumeleño. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean the Hotel was and how friendly the staff was. Once in our room I was again impressed by the extremely clean room. The room is not very modern and the pillows are a bit too old and thing but that is just a detail... The view is AMAZING, the room is big and the bed comfortable. There is no bathtub only shower but that is perfect. No need to bath in the room when you can enjoy the pools or one of the jacuzzis for that. There are 2 restos and one of them requieres rsvp and they have a dress code so make sure to pack some pants and closed shoes if you are a man... Ladies this is a great chance to wear an amazing summer dress! Food is great and the wine is ok. The other resto is by the beach and is sometimes a la carte amd sometimes buffet depending on the amount of guests at the hotel. The view is amazing. The Beach area is small but beautiful and full of fishes that swim by you as if you are one of them. There is a long beach next to the Hotel good for walks. The service at the beach is great, you can get your drinks or even lunch brought to you while you enjoy the sun. I will recommend renting a car and driving around The Island of Cozumel the Island is very small and it takes only around 45 minutes to 1 hour to go around. The beaches are AMAZING on the south/east part of the Island, there are no Hotels or tourism there just pure nature. If you are renting a car just be careful with the office that is near the reception area, the lady that works there told us that there were no cars available (we had asked the night before to the guy working and he said there were many cars to rent for 30 usd) but that she could find one for us for 60usd. We agreed and gave her the deposit of 30 usd for wich she refused to give us a receipt, when the car arrived the driver refused to do the paperwork at the desk instead he asked us to get in the car and he drove us to the parking to write the contract "fishy" so we asked him for the price and he said 90usd and when we told him that we were told it was 60usd he was oh ok then 60usd is ok. When we asked him about the deposit and his name and the name of the renting company he got really aggressive and upset and told us to forget it, that he was not going to rent us the car anymore... The company name was Fox
The lady at the reception gave us back the 30 usd of the deposit but no explanation or excuse was given to us... I suggest you go to an actual renting company with a known name. When in Cozumel always ask for prices before buying, even if the price is displayed with the product you are buying they always ask for more. I also suggest visiting Playa del Carmen there is ferry that departures every hour form Cozumel to Playa del Carmen and is only ~ 8usd and 30 minutes trip. I hope you guys enjoy Mexico ahhh and don't forget the Tacos and tequilas. Happy Vacations
