We found this little historic gem in Chula Vista. Very quaint and cozy atmosphere. Great room and comfy bed. Owners Pie and Karen made you feel like family. Loved breakfast mornings out in the courtyard. Enjoyed the company of Pie during breakfast. Van and I are planning our next visit. Thank you David for waiting up for us on Friday.

Family owned beautifully restored historic hotel in downtown Chula Vista, turned into a gem, with many historic details spread all over the hotel. The minute you come in you immediately feel comfort & a sense of peace. The Roque family make you feel at home, treat you like an extended family. Pie & Sol greet & serve every quest each morning with excellent breakfast, lots of selections & fresh fruits. The lovely courtyard is surrounded with plants. It is a place to heal, relax, enjoy, converse, meet other guests. El Primero hotel is a home away from home.
Very Welcoming

My fiancé and I stayed here for 2 nights. The owners really made us feel welcome. We enjoyed their breakfast options and the outdoor seating area. Overall we had a pleasant visit and would definitely return.
Never Felt More Welcome

This is a fabulous boutique hotel. Located in an historic building in the revitalized downtown of Chula Vista, the hotel has been lovingly restored/updated with great attention to detail. The environment and the comfort of guests was clearly top of mind.
From the beginning, the innkeepers make you feel like a welcome friend. The Roque family and their significant others make it a point to greet each guest. The whole family is wonderful and speaking with Pie was one of the highlights of our stay.
There is so much to say about this place I don't know where to start. The history of the building and area are evident everywhere you look. From the lobby, to the named rooms (no boring room numbers here), to the old photos and write-ups of local points of interest.
The rooms have a clean modern feel that somehow works with the historical details - just nicely decorated to combine the 30's with contemporary furnishings.
Salvaged pieces of the original hotel signage appear in the lovely courtyard, incorporated into a pleasant space to sit in the evenings or enjoy breakfast. And the breakfast is fantastic. It's a full breakfast that will keep you going till dinner. I especially loved the fresh tropical fruit.
Little touches that we remarked on include:
1. The hotel displays the flags of the guests' home countries - another welcoming gesture.
2. The towels are clean and fluffy - with a separate dark coloured facecloth for make-up removal.
3. The hotel is the greenest we experienced on our trip to California - from LED lighting, to motion sensor lights and timers, to recycling bins available in lobby and breakfast area.
4. Power bars are available on each nightstand - you can charge all your devices without worry (what a simple solution to the chronic challenge of finding a place to charge your phones and iPads).
5. Large closet with real wooden hangers.
6. Headboards sort of float from the wall - anchored with a small piece of high density foam, so that there is no 'headboard banging on the wall' noise.
7. High ceilings in each room meant that we could skip the AC and enjoy pleasant temperatures day and night.
The location is fantastic - it makes a great base for exploring San Diego and it's really close to the Chula Vista Amphitheatre. It's also great value - so reasonably priced for the area.
The warmest of welcomes awaits.

Really don't pass by this Little gem! It is family run and for your stay you are treated like extended family. The rooms are cosy, very clean and comfortable and breakfast is plentiful with lots of choice, it is served al fresco with the occasional humming bird visiting the fountain for a quick drink - wonderful. The hotel is well positioned with restaurants in easy walking distance and it is a very safe area. There is a bus stop virtually outside but if you have a car the hotel provides parking. We found it very easy to use this hotel as a base exploring all that San Diego has to offer.
