Embarrassing Embassy Property

This property is in poor repair. Takes several calls to get issues resolved. Issues like toilet that won't flush, sink that won't drain, bathtub that drips and HVAC that is either off or too hot. The bathroom tissue is probably the same used in Alabama prisons.
Could use some improvements

Overall business stay was acceptable. Nice hotel, staff, conveniently located, good breakfast. However, my only complaint is that the room was in poor condition. Carpets and furniture show many stains and wear and the overall room was grimy like old and needs updates.
Great location, perfect for families

Embassy suites is my favorite place to stay when traveling with my teenage sons. We can each have a comfortable place to sleep and can spread out for those longer stays. This is a great location, walkable to all downtown venues, or a Short uber ride away. So many dining options in the neighborhood! We were there to sightsee and attend the musical “Hamilton” and this hotel is a great value. Breakfasts are a bit crowded and crazy but once you understand the process it’s easy to get what you want. They do take their closing time seriously. Don’t think you can show up right at closing and get food, it’s gone! But overall a great place and a friendly staff!
Good Location, but service not up to Hilton standard!

First, let me say that the location of this hotel is excellent for a stay in Chicago. We stayed for 5 nights and there are many great restaurants within walking distance, great shopping on the Miracle Mile (Macy's, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Bloomingdales, etc.) and tour stops nearby ... all within walking distance .2 to .5 miles away. We have friends who live in Chicago and they commented that our location was central/excellent. We did our Starbucks stop every morning instead of having the in-room coffee . . . Starbucks is adjacent to the hotel. There is grocery store across the street where you can purchase things (water/soda/fruit/tylenol, etc.) Now for the hotel:
1. The Rooms - our room was clean and spacious (they are all suites) with a microwave and refrigerator to keep our water/sodas cold. The sofa in the living area was comfortable and 40" TV in the living was a nice plus. There is a table and 3 chairs for eating and/or working. I got in a few hours of work one morning with the free WIFI (HHonors members). The bathroom was clean . . . we did not have any issues with our bathroom (i.e. mold in the shower tiles, etc.) as reported by other reviewers. The bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable! There is a 32" TV in the room with free HBO as well. We faced Ohio Street and were on the 10th floor . . . we did not have any issues with the city noise and I did not think the rooms to be particularly noisy as reported by others, but we're city folks. TIP: select/ask for a room facing State Street, Ohio Street, or Ontario Street. If you do not, you will be facing a multi-level parking lot in the rear of the building. We did not have issues with housekeeping . . . they cleaned our room daily while we were out.
2. The area: there has been a lot in the news lately on the crime in Chicago. That's primarily in south Chicago quite a distance away. We felt very safe in this location as the hotel is on a main street, lots of pedestrian traffic, some great restaurants, and visible police presence. There were a few beggars around, but I have found this in every big city I have visited from my hometown, Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco. It's actually worse in San Fran in my opinion.
3. Hotel Amenities: The included breakfast is very good with a nice selection (eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes/waffles, breads/breakfast pastries, oatmeal/cereal, fruit, etc.) and a cook-to-order omelette station. Breakfast can be quite busy and finding a spot to eat may be challenging. Follow the breakfast time guide they have in the room which lets you know when the busiest periods are. We went down early most mornings which was the best time generally. There is a business center with PC's to print your boarding passes, a heated pools/gym, and an excellent Italian restaurant on site.
4. Service: housekeeping was fine, and the staff working the breakfast area were excellent. We ordered room service the first night and they forgot to place our order . . . we had to call them 40 mins after the initial call. Perhaps the worst . . . the front desk staff left much to be desired . . . definitely not the Hilton standard/experience I'm used to. When I checked in, the young man did not even welcome me to the hotel/Chicago, did not acknowledge my HHonors status and failed to even offer me the complimentary water that I usually get at every other Hilton property. I had to come back down and ask for the water which he gave me after checking my reservation and status . . . really? And on top of that, he added a $50 per day "incidentals" hold on my credit card . . . it would have been the professional thing to advise me of this when I checked in. Instead, I had to go down and inquire as to the charge they had placed on my credit card and that's when I got the explanation. I paid for the reservation with points/cash and typically will stay at a Hilton property for both my business and pleasure trips. I'm loyal to the brand, but the service at the front desk was apathetic at best . . . not the Hilton standard I'm used to at all. I would have given this hotel 5 stars had it not been been for the front desk service! At no time during my 5 day stay did any of the front-desk staff smile or even acknowledge me when I entered the hotel lobby area (and it's not huge or even difficult to smile and say hello) . . . very disappointing!
Great location

I really enjoyed our stay: two adults and five teenagers! Great location and facilities. The breakfasts were especially good value and the evening reception was nice. Best thing is the location--everyone was able to walk everywhere they wanted to go.
