Beautiful wooded area

One story buildings spread out in a gorgeous wooded area. The hot tub is mostly enclosed & the pool was wonderful. We discovered we had stayed there before when it was with another hotel chain. There are little closets outdoors for ski equipment. It's in a quiet local but was not full when we were there so can't say if it's quiet with the rooms full. The "breakfast" was 1/2 a large muffin and coffee.
Oldfashioned motel outside of town

This motel gave a very different impression online from the reality. What we found was a rather worn, old motel. Nothing especially wrong with it, but the price should have been half of what we paid. The location is quite a bit out of Bend, in a forest area without any local facilities, so you need you car even to get a drink. The staff was friendly and helpful. One good point was walking paths in the nearby forest, although for some reason the access to that from the motel areas was blocked. Some interesting wildlife in the area (birds, chipmunks, rabbits etc).
Good value

The location is quiet (if the people next to your room are). It is next to good hiking, biking trails, about a 30 minute walk to the Deschutes River behind the Lodge. Clean, little updated since the late 1970's. Microwave, refrigerator, good Wifi, in the morning you can get a muffin and coffee. About a ten minute drive to the westside of town. Clean and everything works. A nice greeting and check in from the front desk.
A Surprisingly Nice Place

Our group had booked most of the rooms in this Lodge many months in advance of the solar eclipse. The couple of negative reviews I'd read had me worried, but the place turned out to be fine--in fact, much better than fine.
Our flight arrived quite late, and by the time we made it to the hotel it was midnight. The manager was on hand to greet us and and give us our keys; checkin required about a minute. Our room was clean and comfortable; the beds supportively firm but not hard. The room was equipped with both a microwave and a small refrigerator plus hair dryer and coffee maker.
The lodge is located in the woods, about a five minute drive from the nearest Safeway and Starbucks, and about a 15 minute drive from downtown Bend. The location was ideal for us--I went jogging in the woods each morning (lots of trails), and yet an easy drive to the nearest restaurants.
It's a little hard to understand the negative reviews. House keeping was thorough and showed up every morning; if my daughter was sleeping in, they came back later in the day, and we always had fresh towels and the trash removed. The wi-fi was fine. There were no bugs in our room, and I heard no one in our group say anything negative about the place. It's true that if you want to stay in a high rise Marriott, this is not the place for you: it's a nice, well-kept one level facility in the woods. There is indeed moss on the roof (as someone complained)--and pine needles--it's located **in the woods**, so what would you expect? It's in no way dilapidated or in need of repair. The A/C and heating unit is a wall unit, but the controls are convenient; we did not have to crawl around on the floor as one one of the reviewers reported.
What the lodge doesn't have is any real food, and the continental breakfast consists of muffins, coffee and juice. This would have been fine for me, but not so much for the family, so I started each morning with a short drive to the nearby Starbucks to return with supplies.
The staff was friendly and helpful, and we would certainly choose to stay here again the next time we're in Bend.
Janky hotel

Off the beaten path, not in the city lies this motel.
Upon arrival, 3 bugs on the bed pillows, a comforter that looked like from the 70s, a phone that said best western and it doesn't have a fridge. The fridge we knew about going in.
The bed is similar to sleeping on concrete if you dare sleep under the sheets.
They claim wifi but I don't know that it really exists, 1 bar of wifi doesn't do any bit of good.
Got there on a Thursday, left on a Sunday and the room was serviced once. Had to goto the office to get clean towels.
Best part is the trails are easily accessible there but for $220 on a weekend rate, this is just criminal. Completely not worth it.
