A few things in need of improvement

Alison Con 05/06/2017 21:30

First impressions were good, but after staying a week, you begin to notice the dusty floors, corridors and banisters, the scuffs on the wall. The shower gel not replaced, the basic breakfast with fermenting juice, lack of fresh fruit and stale bread, the uncleared tables. I was on a package holiday with a group of walkers on a half board basis, our evening meals were basic, and rather strange, not only in description on the menu but also in what we were given- such as only fish on two evenings, all meat on others with no fish, very poor selection for vegetarians. I objected to paying extra to use the pool when being a resident for the week - all these little things do add up. However, staff friendly and helpful, gardens well maintained and hotel generally quiet

QUIRKY

On the plus side the hotel has spectacular views to the Med on one side and Mount Etna on the other. The dinner was excellent, served in the restaurant which was situated in the garden. The rooms were spacious and well appointed with a fridge. However I thought that the design of the hotel was illconceived and parts of it were unkempt. Some glass panels around the place were cracked, the fountains and water features dirty and mouldy, parts of the garden were neglected and the bottom of the outdoor pool became dirtier by the day. Often diirty glasses from the previous evening were still in the same place in the morning. The carpet on the stairs and around the area of level 4 was rarely vacuumed. I noticed that there were few electrical wall sockets in the area. Could that be the reason? The route to and from the outdoor pool was, from reception, down some steep steps and a steep slope which would preclude many people from accessing the facility. Access was possible through the spa area and onwards to a lift, if it was open. The outdoor pool area is unsuitable for small children as it is not fenced off from the drive to the carpark. Scary! Access to the garden restaurant is down a long flight of steps. There is no other way so how is anyone who is infirm, disabled etc able to use the restaurant? On more than one night my friend and I were kept awake until past midnight by the excessive noise, 'music' and inane loud rantings of a DJ in one of the banqueting rooms. Unacceptable. Through all this mayhem receptionist Dario and waiter Guiseppe kept cheerful. Think carefully before you even consider this hotel

Attractive, modern hotel

We enjoyed our stay in this modern, comfortable hotel with spa. We got a very good price for our rooms and took advantage of the swimming pool and steam room and sauna. The hotel has wonderful views from the slopes of etna over to the Mediterranean. The bedrooms are large, with good shower room and comfortable large beds. The service was good and the restaurant for the hotel which is in a separate building was very good. Worth a visit.

A Gem

A truly beautiful place tucked away on the outskirts of Zafferana. Rooms are spacious, well equipped with all amenities. Pool area is gorgeous and welcome as weather is hot in July, quiet when we were there, like having a private villa. Beautiful food in the downstairs restaurant, well tucked away in a lovely garden, in fact hard to find! Staff are lovely, friendly and personable. A car is preferable as public transport in the area is scant. Great value as this is a beautiful hotel and you'd pay a lot more for same in Ireland or UK.
Watch out for mosquitoes as you are up in the mountains with a lot of vegetation, we got a few bites before we got any protection on.We were on the ground floor with our own little garden, which was lovely.
On downside, breakfast is sparse with no hot food but still couldn't take a star away as we loved Esperia Palace and would recommend it.
