We stayed for 2 nights in May, the area itself looks a bit run down but like Montevideo in general is safe. We had a problem with the safe which was sorted very quickly. Breakfast is adequate , with cereal, toast, cakes, ham, cheese and a small hot selection. Plenty of tea, coffee etc.
Rooms have air con and safe, no tea/coffee in room.
Service was ok from the desk, no real issues .
Two issues with the room, the shower was poorly designed and flooded the floor. On both days, room service didnt arrive till after 4pm. After a day out in the city, its that time when you want to rest a bit. I havent had this service so late anywhere else in the world.

The hotel is right downtown, close to everything. The staff is friendly and prompt. Looks like a new hotel, or recently updated. Everything in great conditions, very modern. I loved that they had art all over the hotel, including the bedrooms. They had a beautiful heated indoor pool and a small gym. Great breakfast too (free and with great selection).
Two things that were not great:
1) the shower wall only covers half of the tub, so it gets pretty wet after showering. However, shower was great :)
2) Cleaning: overall the hotel was clean, but there was a few black/ thick hairs in my room (on the floor and even on the bed cover) -- and my hair is thin and brunette. I spent 3 nights, and every day after the cleaning lady came in, more black hair would show! So instead of getting cleaner, I got more weird black hair in my room.

esplendor chain is one of my favourites in latin america, and esplendor el calafate is maybe my favourite hotel in the world, hence my booking at esplendor cervantes.
location is excellent for those who prefer to stay in ciudad vieja, the hotel is as expected cool and stylish, bearing in mind that it is a conversion of an historic building and not a full luxury hotel.
roomwas spacious and clean , bathroom cool and well appointed, common areas very well decorated, great indoor pool and sauna, staff very helpful.
breakfast is abundant and varied, only the scrambled eggs not very good because out of a packet, and the freezing air conditioning in the rooftop breakfast room very uncomfortable.
very good value indeed, definitely recommend

Stayed in the hotel for 1 night but I wish the stay were longer. The hotel is quite close to the historic district (10 mins walk) and 3 mins away from the Promenade. The rooms are big and with high ceilings. The swimming pool is small but the lobby is spacious. the breakfast is good, the view from the roof is ok.

I stayed here with my boyfriend a couple months ago and we were not very impressed. The room could have been cleaner, shower cap was used, and shampoo was dingy and used. The bed was big and comfortable, with some strange decorative pillows that were falling apart. The hotel is located in the centre in an area of the city that isn't very nice, our room had a view of a construction site. The pool was nice but closed early. The "gym" consisted of two machines, one of which wasn't working. The breakfast spread was perhaps the redeeming factor, lots of food! Would not recommend to a friend.
