Work Long Stay

Harry S on 02/10/2017 22:29

I stayed at this ESA location for 7 weeks from June to August. I was working on a project at the Ford Truck Assembly Plant just a few miles away.
The location is quiet, well kept and a good value.
I worked night shift and there was fresh coffee every morning when I got in.
Housekeeping came weekly and worked with my schedule so they didn’t wake me.
In the almost 50 days I was there, I didn’t have a major issue. My biggest complaint is the comforter slides off the bed easily, I now travel with my own.

Awful...and management doesn't care

This may be my first 1-star rating out of more than 250 reviews. As many other reviews mention, this hotel is awful.

Pool: this first picture that is shown for this hotel is a picture of a nice pool. It was one of the reasons we chose this hotel, so my son could have some fun. But there is no pool. It was filled in with concrete. Now it's just a concrete slab.

"Breakfast": the free breakfast was another huge disappointment. Just wrapped up muffins and granola bars.

Wi-fi: inconsistent connection

Odors: Rooms and hallways (at least on first floor) have some pretty bad odors. Can certainly smell cigarette smoke, and a few other unidentifiable odors.

Room cleaning: we stayed here for a weekend and were told guests staying for only 2 nights do not have their rooms cleaned, or sheets or towels replaced.

No ice machine, and other small complaints.

What's disappointing is that in response to other bad reviews are comments by management thanking the reviewers and a promise to look into these problems and make improvements. This is just lip service, clearly.

False advertising

My husband used Hotels.com to book two rooms for our family, during a weekend trip to Churchill Downs. He chose this location because it claimed to offer free wifi, a continental breakfast (a meaningful consideration, for our relatively large group), and a pool. As I write this review, the photo that has automatically popped up is a sunny photo of a clean pool, surrounded by deck chairs. We thought I could bring the younger kids back to swim, if they weren't as into the horse racing as the adults.

In fact, the pool has been filled in with concrete. When we asked about it, an employee said it's a common question, but the pool has been filled in for a few *years*, so it's puzzling that it continues to be a selling point, in ads.

Despite multiple attempts, we could never get the wifi to work. For us, this only caused inconvenience when trying to look up something fun to do with the kids, in town, before Churchill Downs opened, mid-day. Good luck, if you're choosing this extended-stay hotel because you hope to get some business done on your laptop.

The breakfast was coffee and cheap, individually-wrapped muffins - the least-common-denominator version of "continental breakfast". However, the rooms do have kitchens and there is a Wal-Mart down the street (nearly within walking distance), so we went shopping and cooked a nice breakfast for the family. We had to make a separate trip downstairs for kitchen supplies, because all those cabinets they have are completely empty. If you're in your pj's and need a bottle opener at 11pm - or a coffee maker at 6am - you're kind of out of luck. The exhaust fan over the stove did not work, and the windows will only open a crack, so the room probably smelled like egg-and-pepper breakfast burritos, after we left.

Overall, the rooms appeared clean and the furniture, bathroom fixtures, etc. relatively new and in decent repair. In one of our rooms, there were no sheets for the pull-out sofa (only a mattress liner) and the extra blanket was not clean (had some long hairs that were not ours), but after yet another trip to the front desk, we were able to get clean linens for it. Under the kitchen chairs was a plastic bottle lid from whomever had stayed there before us. This created obvious questions about the housekeeping, but there were no other overt signs of concern.

I rarely give bad reviews, but this is not a hotel I would recommend, unless you're getting a truly exceptional price.

Terrible rooms

grdovicjanet on 13/05/2017 00:31

Terrible! We checked in around 8pm and went upstairs to our room. When we turned down the sheets there was a few long black hairs in the bed. When we went into the bathroom the same long hairs were on the wall near the garbage can. They didn't change the sheets and didn't clean the bathroom properly. We went back downstairs and they changed our room. When we got into our new room we went to use the bathroom and they had a elongated toilet seat on a standard size toilet. Do when you sit down your actually sitting on a part of the toilet bowl! Gross!! Then we went to warm up our frozen pizzas and had to wait over an hour for pizzas that should have been cooked in 20 minutes. We were starving. The next day we asked for the manager and told her the issues. She said the elongated toilet seat was better than no toilet seat at all. Not acceptable to say that to your guests. I should know since I'm a Resort Manager for a Major Resort. They said they would see what to do about our issues. When we got back they changed the toilet seat and put a standard size one on but it was a dirty toilet seat from another room. We tried the stove they swapped out but it didn't turn on. So back to the front desk we went. To find out the maintenance guy turned off the breaker and never turned it back on. So he never actually tested the stove. So frustrating I will never stay here again. If I ran my hotel the way that they do I wouldn't have any repeat guests. I'd be comping everything. You have to PM your rooms every day and fix any issues before new guests check in. If things don't work out the room out of order and fix it so you can sell it properly in perfect condition.

Where's the.....

alba99tross on 17/04/2017 21:40

This hotel was nicely located and convenient after my evening flight to Louisville. But that's where it stops. The towels were thin. There was no hair dryer in the bathroom. There was no ice machine in the building, although we were offered an ice tray. Instead of having a coffee machine in the room, I had to go and pick it up from the front desk. Luckily, they did offer coffee in the morning along with some pre-packaged muffins, oatmeal and granola bars. Had I known this was a stripped down no frills hotel, I would have paid the extra money and stayed somewhere else.
