What People are saying

Motel 6 Quality for Hilton Price

turningfool on 24/10/2017 20:44

$250 a night for this place is ridiculous. Perhaps they just jacked it up in order to gouge fire victims, because the furnishings are at cheap motel level--formica over particle board. The location is across a freeway from a sewage treatment plant, and when you step outside, you know it. The internet is excruciatingly slow--like 5 minutes to load a page.

But the real kicker is that the main thing they purport to offer--a kitchenette in every room--is useless because no kitchenware is automatically provided. No pots and pans, flatware, knives, kitchen tools, plates, or bowls. You have to ask for some plates at the front desk. There we got the last 2 plates and mugs, and a package of extra lightweight plastic spoons. That's all they had, they said, until other guests check out. Every time we go past the front desk, guests are there begging for a few more items for their kitchen. You would be just as well off with a mini fridge and microwave like most good hotels provide. Oh, and no coffee maker, such as even low end motels provide. No housekeeping or maid service either; you are on your own with cleaning.

The only reason I didn't rate it "terrible" is that the bed is not bad.

Extended Stay America is a great place to stay. Management and staff are pleasant and accommodating. I would recommend Extended Stay America to anyone wanting to stay in San Rafael for business or pleasure.

Safe and good price, but filthy hotel, ants in bathroom, disgusting sheets

deb874 on 03/09/2017 22:40

Stayed @ Stay America in San Rafael for 1 night. I've never written neg review but..the sheets had two kinds of stains (poop streak on fitted sheet and black mildew on pillow case - GROSS!!) that we didn't notice until we got out of bed in the am, and a storm of ants raided the bathroom trashcan overnight (on the 3rd floor!) The staff were nice and were trying to do their job, but I think the hotel may be understaffed. Basic furniture, and the kitchen appliances worked. We're locals who went there to have air conditioning during a major heat wave and the ac worked at the hotel. The pool was fun, but again not clean, hair in it, etc. so cut the pool visit short. Nice clientele and safe hotel in a business park-type neighborhood. We did have to bring our dog and were put in a room that was one they use for people who bring dogs, so perhaps that explains why the room felt less than clean, but that doesn't explain the disgusting sheets or ants. I left feeling like I needed a shower at home immediately the room was so unclean. The 'grab and go' breakfast was a little banana nut muffin in cellophane and coffee with liquid creamer. For a room that cost almost $200 I'd expect more. We left glad to go home to no ac rather than stay at Stay America. Never again.

Subpar Customer Service. Minimal Amenities

PacHeightsTraveler on 03/09/2017 20:42

I had two different reservations for two consecutive nights made on Hotwire. When I checked in the front desk person acknowledged that I had a second night but had to check out in the morning and re-check in and keep the same room. No problem. The next morning, I checked out but then the front desk woman could not find any reservation for me. I showed her my Hotwire confirmation on my phone but she still did not allow me to check in. She said that I had to contact Hotwire so they could then notify the Extended Stay America hotel. I explained that it is IMPOSSIBLE to contact a human being at Hotwire. She shrugged her shoulders and said she could not do anything at her end. She did offer to make me another reservation, which I would have had to pay for, despite the fact the Hotwire already charged me for that night. I asked to speak to a mgr on duty. I was told that she would not be in until 1:00pm. I went to breakfast and did try to contact both Hotwire and Extended Stay. Impossible. Just computer prompts. I came back to the hotel and miraculously they did contact Hotwire and resolved the problem. It was some kind of problem between Hotwire and Extended Stay. CS lesson #1, don't put the onus of fixing this issue onto your guest! Don't tell your guest to call hotwire. Your CS staff should take care of it. I learned two lessons from this experience. DON'T book through 3rd party hotel reservation sites. You become helpless if there is any kind of issue. Never stay at Extended Stay America again. They have deplorable Customer Service and bare bones rooms with zero amenities.

Clean and adequate

JoanElaine1947 on 28/08/2017 02:00

We stayed the Extended Stay America, San Rafael. It is clean and adequate and features kitchens in each room. Visitors must request cutlery, dishes, etc. at the main desk. The hotel was quiet. My only complaint was their Take and Go Breakfast. There was no tables and chairs only a bar that featured food that could be taken away. Instant oatmeal, protein bars, coffee, tea, and packaged muffins were the only selections. No fruit, no eggs, no seating area. This was a disappointment. However the clerk at check in was extremely courteous and helpful and should be given a raise---She was that pleasant!
