Clean and comfortable
Ellen Con 11/11/2017 19:36This hotel is clean and comfortable, with decent sized rooms. I especially love that the rooms all have refrigerators and microwaves. The included breakfast buffet is well stocked and tasty, although if you decide to sleep in you won’t feel guilty for missing it. The location is fabulous—we easily walked to most attractions and businesses, including the western Maryland railroad. A pleasant and predictable stay—but that’s part of why we booked it.
Final Stop on GAP Ride
HappyHikerGirlon 01/11/2017 21:40A friend and I rode the GAP from Pittsburgh and made the Fairfield Inn our final stop.
ROOM: We stayed in a room with 2 queens, a desk, dresser, closet. The staff allowed us to store our bikes in our room. We had no problem storing both bikes and being able to move around. Room was clean, standard Fairfield Inn level. It was nice that the windows open a bit for fresh air.
SHARED SPACES: The breakfast/lounge area was open and clean
BREAKFAST: Wide selection for a free breakfast - again standard stuff found at a Marriott Fairfield Inn/Courtyard breakfast: cereal, scrabbled eggs (from powder), sausages (pork & turkey), waffle batter (and waffle iron for fresh waffles), juices, tea, coffee, yogurt, boiled eggs, breads, & limited breakfast sweets.
STAFF: Very friendly and helpful with suggestions for dinner
LOCATION: Perfect GAP location! Literally right off the C&O canal path (a few hundred feet after the GAP ends), there is a walkway to the hotel from the C&O. The Fairfield Inn is close to the pedestrian mall and other shops. There isn't much available in Cumberland, but what's needed is within walking distance. The Cumberland Amtrak station is close by too - a short bike ride across the rail tracks and turn right.
TIP: If taking Amtrak from Cumberland - check the status of the train before leaving the hotel. Our train was 40 minutes late and in chatting to several regulars, it's not uncommon for the train between Cumberland & DC to be anywhere from 40 minutes to SEVERAL HOURS late. Use the Amtrak App before you leave the Fairfield Inn to make sure you aren't waiting outside or in the TINY Amtrak station. It was a beautiful day when we left for DC, so we didn't mind being outside for an extra 40 minutes...
CONNECTIVITY: I had no issues with Verizon LTE. My friend used the hotel WiFi w/o issue instead of using her T-Mobile access.

Tom Gon 31/10/2017 03:18Another excellent experience in October 2017 while riding the GAP trail. Beautiful, modern, clean, friendly place to stay right on the trail. Wonderful included breakfast. Bikes in the rooms are no problem.
Great stay on the way to DC
Robin Von 30/10/2017 00:50We drove to DC from Kentucky and stopped here to spend the night. Friendly front desk staff, clean rooms, great breakfast in the lobby. Conveniently located right off I-68. Appreciated the mobile Marriott check-in option from my phone. Would stay here again!
Wonderful Hotel with Great Location
Patti0129on 28/10/2017 17:05Chose this hotel due to the close proximity of the Western Maryland Scenic RR and was pleasantly surprised just how perfect it was in ALL facets. Extremely clean, polite staff, excellent breakfast, clean and spacious rooms, awesome swimming pool, and a very cozy lobby with fireplace. The icing on the cake was the scenery and walking trails right behind the hotel and the fact that you felt you were not confined to the building itself. Only a 3-minute walk along a cobblestone lane to the train station, with a small playground and shopping area along the way. This hotel actually has now made us consider the Fairfield chain of hotels first for future trips. Will definitely be returning !
