First stay after the major renovations on the Gold Level

FuzzyBeaver on 20/11/2017 22:42

This is our first return stay on the Gold Level after the major renovations. The rooms are very nice with new furnishings. Housekeeping does a fabulous job keeping everything tidy and super clean. The food in the lounge is excellent with quite a broad selection. Good range of wines as well. All the staff are very friendly and very anxious to provide outstanding service and meet your every wish. The only negative is that they are still working out the kinks so there was no regular coffee for an extended time one morning. On some evenings they don't have enough staff so many of food stations don't get refilled on a timely basis or dishes cleared. So I had to deduct a star for these issues. Overall, the renovated hotel great and will certainly return.

Meh. Would not stay there again if I was booking for myself.

I stayed at this hotel from November 15-17 for a conference. Prior to my departure, I was quite excited about the hotel as the reviews and pics looked awesome. Unfortunately, the hotel did not live up to my expectations. When I checked in I asked for a room with a view. Well when I got to the room, it had a view of a brick building and it was miniscule. I would not want to stay in the room with more than one person. If I had been staying there for more than 2 nights, I would have asked to be moved. Not only was the room tiny, but the bathroom was like a small cruise ship bathroom. Again barely suitable for one person.
The location was great and I had room service one night which was good.
My last morning there after my shower, I could not get the shower to turned off. Had to get out of shower, get dressed and search for a housekeeper to come and turn it off. She ended up breaking off the lever to get it turned off.
There are way nicer hotels in Montreal to stay at than this one.

Never again

The venue is nice, all brand new and renovated; however this is not a 5 star hotel.

Prior to my arrival, I received an email welcoming me to the hotel as is the custom in the hotel industry. I replied to it asking for reservations, to this day (2 days later) I have not received a reply.

Check in was just fine, even though I am staying at the gold level I checked in at the front desk. There was no lineup so why not, they actually had my keys and paperwork ready.

I went for breakfast to gold lounge the next morning, I'm sorry to say but I serve better breakfast to my guest at home. Cold cut selection was very poor, no chef on site so forget about omelette or soft boiled eggs. You are really limited to what they have on the counter. To be honest, I was expecting a lot more from a newly renovated hotel.

After breakfast, I tried booking a manicure at the spa. Unfortunately they had no availability until three days later. At which point I will be checked out and sleeping in my bed. ( one of the requests in my email btw)

I asked the concierge at the gold level to book a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant for me. Pleasant to talk to, however I have not received an email with the information/reservation I requested. Instead I got a voicemail in my room, which would have been perfectly fine, if the phone actually worked. One would think that once you pick it up, press talk and select your option you would actually get to speak to somebody. (or at least get something other than silence) Unfortunately this is not the case here. Neither message or the gold/concierge buttons work. Perhaps I lack the ability work the phone.

So I decided to take a bath, only to find out that the bath plug does not work. ( At least they eliminate the possibility of a flood this way) Such a shame though, since the one bedroom gold suite has a really nice tub.

I can't speak for other people, but to me thousand dollars a nigh should get you a little more. If you like large hotels this is the right place, to me however this is the last visit here. I've had couple of bad experiences with Fairmont recently, and I am one unhappy platinum customer at this point.

If you value good service and personal touch, go to the Ritz. You will not regret it!

A downscale Fairmont

torontoguys38 on 18/11/2017 21:38

I love Fairmonts. But if this is the future-won't be staying at them. It started with check in. As a platinum member, I'm guaranteed a room until mine is ready. It wasn't offered. Suites don't have large bottles of shampoo etc like every other fairmont, no welcome card, no slippers, no rain shower heads - like every other fairmont, no nice fairmont towels (apparently only on the top floors), no turndown service unless asked, room is as comfortable as IKEA furniture and looks like it too! No proper office chair. The chair in the living room is purely for show.Bed is usual comfort- thank goodness. AND the nice restaurant is connected to a food court. How chic! As a fairmont nerd- I am surprised by all this. There are many other properties to stay at in Montreal that are more comfortable and nicer. They don't even have the usual bed linens! While these things may seem small- when you are used to them at every other Fairmont, it's disappointing here. The above reasons are way I stay at Fairmonts. They usually make you feel very special. Not here. Maybe this Fairmont is supposed to be the low rent version of the others? This could be the wave of the future. Moving downscale I guess. Good news-they rushed to get our suite ready-so was ready 3 hours after our early check in request.pastry in the room was delicious and housekeeping was nice.

Lovely Hotel for a Business Conference

Sheila B on 18/11/2017 03:20

The city of Montreal is so stunning, unfortunately, I was there for a conference so I never ventured out. That being said the Fairmont was lovely! We never needed to. The food was terrific (for a conference of that size). The hotel rooms were superb-bed was super comfortable, the view was stunning, the room was well lit, and the shower (pressure, size, etc) was great. My only complaint would be check in & check out process was slow, but maybe that was because it was such a large group. It was a delightful stay!
