The beds were comfortable. Car park is spacious and easy to park in. Menu in adjacent Hungry Horse, has a good selection all at very reasonable prices. Drinks are reasonably priced. Kids play area in Hungry Horse. Housekeeping / cleaning staff, really try hard to make the most of dilapidated rooms.
Having stayed many times over the past 7 years, the place has now deteriorated in a number of respects. Staff, no longer the happy helpful lot we were used to. Management, sadly lacking. Kids play area, used to be free when staying in the hotel or a nominal charge, now very expensive. Rooms have needed a refit for a number of years, unfortunately, this hasn't happened, the bedrooms and bathrooms are in a dreadful state. The residents lounge, which was supposed to ensure residents could dine and enjoy a drink, even when the adjacent Hungry Horse was busy, was not open on Friday and Saturday nights. This created real problems, in trying to find a table, in The Hungry Horse. We dined out on the Friday and returned to the Hungry Horse after 9PM. We had some drinks in The Hungry Horse, as the residents lounge was not open. At 10.20PM, a female Duty Manager approached our table and insisted we leave, as we had 2 children with us. I asked for 5 minutes to finish our glasses of wine, however, she would not accept this. Apparently children are not allowed in The Hungry Horse after 10PM, however, everyone saw us arriving, taking a table and buying drinks at the bar. There are no notices, explaining the rules, which would be simple to add. Basically, we were marched from our table, accompanied by this "Duty Manager", which was embarrassing and spoiled our evening. 5 minutes to finish our drinks was all that was required. On the Saturday evening, with the residents lounge closed, we were forced to try and find a table in The Hungry Horse, this was very difficult and we ended up adjacent to the kids play area, where we were not allowed to take alcoholic drinks. After eating we took a bottle of wine to our room, as there were no tables available. The carpets outside the restaurant toilets were flooded and soaking wet. On the Sunday morning, we went to load our car and discovered smashed bottles over the car park.

    Just don’t...

I never give a bad review. I like to find positives with everything so my positive is biscuits with the tea.
I had several rooms as each had something wrong. The shower in the first room exploded on day one and I was almost knocked out when the shower head flew off at pressure. This resulted in me having an unexpected hair wash and the floor flooding.
Both rooms overlooked the car park. Night two I was kept awake by two men arguing for about 40 minutes outside my window. I learnt a few expletives I had never heard before. A call to reception went unanswered.
Night three had an amorous couple in a car parked under my window. Too much sharing....
I have never felt unsafe in a hotel before, but I did here. A hotel for contractors working locally not really a business/ tourist hotel.

    ralphdubber on 14/11/2017 13:36

We stayed in a family room for one night, and we found the room to be an excellent size for our needs (2 adults and 2 small children). It was a good location for us to for seeing local friends and relatives and would happy to use this hotel again

Thoroughly enjoyed our Anniversary Party in the Garden Room on Sun 12 Nov. The room was a perfect size with nice large round tables to seat approx. 50 guests. Bar and Catering were excellent. Sandra was very helpful with the planning of the event, and very supportive on the day. A great time was had by all.
