Lovely hotel in the grounds of the Royal Palace. Great welcome on check-in, lovely traditional room - great to see it has not been updated to one of those non-descript zero character rooms that you find in so many placesere around the world. Great power shower, in a good sized bathroom. Only slight let down, were the really old towels, which desperately needed renewing. Just a slight negative, but it was not a big issue, just an observation.
You can move around the Palace ground area in a complemetary golf buggy, which is a fantastic way to move around the complex, especially if you are feeling a bit lazy or tired. Breakfast and dinner were served in the Sunset restaurant, which serves very good food. Great service and fantastic views over the lake.
I would highly recommend a stay here.

A truely royal experience! We stayed at the presidential suite on the ground floor and it was an experience of it own. Staying there on valentines eve Chocolates, flowers and wine on check in made it extra special. The view of the lake from the room was stunning. The property in itself is a palace with manay intricate details and pictures.
Sunset terrace restaurant is another highlight, one must dine at. However during breakfast its a bit crowded. It was an experience on its own.

As we finally drove up to our lakeside hotel in the palace, I found my spirits were uplifted by the view. And waking up to look out over the great lake in which stand two islands, one of which is the Maharanha's Summer Palace, rather than the Winter Palace where we were, refreshed that feeling each morning. The view is spectacular. It really is worth coming here, just for that view.
The Summer Palace featured in Octopussy, the James Bond film, by the way.
We had a really interesting tour round the Winter Palace - it's the first time I'd ever had a guided tour round a palace, a part of which I had been staying in. Fancy walking no more than 75 yards from your front door to the first notable item on that tour!
Later on our guide drove with us through the city to the Queen's Garden - well worth a short visit. Then, after purchasing some beautiful fabric in a nearby shop that had been favoured by most of the cast of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (according to the photographs) we finished off the day with a boat trip round the lake, visiting the other island, where preparations for a no doubt huge wedding were taking place.
I found myself thinking that if ever I was to relocate to India (Best Exotic Marigold Hotel style) it would not be too difficult to adjust to Udaipur. I rather liked the city.

The rooms were spacious and a perfect blend between both old royalty and new luxury
Amazing views and tranquil aura, fabulous variety of scrumptious cuisine and impeccable service... one can only experience personally

The entire visit was a unique experience. The hotel is housed in a beautiful heritage building which is well maintained by the HRH group. The Indian traditional style welcome, room with awesome view of Lake Pichola and Lake palace and the food at Sunset restaurant were excellent. The staff was very courteous and more than willing to answer our queries. We were treated like royalty. The museum and crystal gallery at the City palace are worth a visit. The premises itself needs two days of sightseeing to do justice to it. The boat ride in the lake at sunset time upto Jagmandir for tea/coffee break and live instrumental tabla with jal tarang made the trip relaxing.
