NEVER AGAIN!!!
riverview5087on 17/10/2017 17:26I travel to Punta Gorda every year during Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m booked here for 2017. I received an email from RCI letting me know my week of Thanksgiving is cancelled due to the Hurricane. I have 30 days to rebook a trip or I lose my exchange fee. There is nothing for me to book!!
So, I now receive an email from Fishermen’s Village informing me that my week at Christmas has also been cancelled. I called RCI and they are not aware of this so they will not release my points.
There is nothing available in this area with such short notice. Even if there was something, I couldn’t book because my points are being held. So I will not be able to visit family this year. And I’m out $450 in exchange fees.
I called the city of Punta Gorda and ZERO permits have been pulled. I find it odd that all the stores underneath and all the restaurants are open. I was also told very few buildings in the area had water damage.
I had a terrible experience here in 2015 also and said I would never return. I can’t believe I gave in and booked another stay here. NEVER AGAIN!!!
Our favorite get-a-way
ulch27on 27/08/2017 18:53We try to get to the Village at least once a year. We are originally from New England and enjoy the meals at the Village Fish Market. (Just like home) Of course we enjoy the other restaurants also, Scotty's, Harpoon Harry's etc. The rooms are clean, spacious, and have wonderful views. The bathrooms can use a little upgrading. The wives enjoy the convenience of shopping at the boutiques. Already looking forward to our next visit. The wife and I started coming here ourselves and every year it seems like more couples tag along with us. .
Enchanting!
Struck_Oil_Slick_LLCon 15/08/2017 12:002nd time visit! The place is simply enchanting! Rent a boat or go to one of the many nearby beaches and the SHOPS!!! You will adore the shops right outside your door! From the best seafood ever to a treasure to wear forever, I'm loving my Druzy necklace every day!
Ok - but could do with modernization
GightRunneron 04/08/2017 19:56This is a review of the Fishermen's Village Resort not the shops, restaurants, etc.
Also, we visited as part of a timeshare exchange via Interval International. Suffice it to say that the quality of the apartment / resort is far below anything we have previously exchanged.
The resort is located at a pier and marina about 1 mile south of downtown Punta Gordo. The apartments are all on the second floor and accessible by stairs or two different elevators. Below the apartments are a series of shops, coffee shop and four restaurants (one of which is closed for refurbishment at the time of writing - July / August 2017).
Our apartment was two bed and one bath - Jack and Jill style. The bedrooms both have a queen size bed. One of the bedrooms is open to a small loft area that includes a sofa bed. There is also a kitchen area with breakfast bar onto a dining / lounge area. Our balcony had a south facing view of Charlotte Harbor.
The apartment is well equipped and comfortable but is in need of modernization. The décor is mustard colored walls and wood trim. It is quite dark. The bathroom is very dark and has a mild damp smell. The whole apartment smells of cheap cleaner / air fresheners used in some cheaper hotels.
The kitchen is equipped with stove / oven, fridge / freezer, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, etc. There are some cooking utensils - even to get buy. There is a guest laundry.
The biggest downside is the AC. We visited in July / August and cannot get the AC below 73 deg F. In late afternoon it raises to 76 deg F until the sun goes down. We did raise this with reception who sent a technician straight away. There was some improvement but they did warn us not to expect to get it below 72. Basically meaning the AC units are not big enough to cool the space! We live in Texas - so we know what it takes.
There is a pool area for guests. We didn't use it - but it looks pretty small and dated.
