Old Hotel Shabby room

The staff is very kind and helpful and the location is excellent. However, the room in original building was small, smelled of sewer and was generally sub-standard for the price. The room's carpet smelled as we entered. No screens meant opening a window for fresh air also allowed mosquitos and flies in the room. Two small towels were scratchy and sad. Bring your own shampoo and soap for all that you get is a wall unit with multipurpose soap. Bed was comfortable and clean.
The restaurant was adequate, but vegetable soup resembled oatmeal with horrible taste. We looked forward to breakfast and were shocked to find a 20 person line waiting for the coffee machine. The rest of the buffet was adequate with good number of choices. Since there were probably 100 people at breakfast, a second coffee station with double machines would make sense. Parking fee seemed petty.
All in all, seemed to be overpriced and in need of renovation to rooms.
Nice hotel in pitoresque Bergen

This is a nice hotel, old English style. It is situated five kilometers from the beach at Bergen aan Zee, which has nice facilities for eating and drinking on the beach. It is not so touristic as for example Egmond aan Zee; it is quiet and a good place for a calm holiday. The hotel has good food, only the rooms are a bit outdated, its needs renovation. The management is aware of that and promised improvement. Bergen is one of the best places to stay along the coast of The Netherlands.
There must have been a meteorite, to get so many stars.

Seeing 4 stars, we expected more than the basic...
Could only check in mid afternoon, and it was pouring down. Then room was OK, but no possibility of making a cup of tea. The walls are paper thin and our neighbours did not seem to realise...one side late at night, the other side very early in the morning. The bed was good, the pillow lumpy.
Well, perhaps the breakfast will be 4 stars? ... We've had better breakfasts at 2 star venues. Then, the receptionist gave us wrong information, assuming, not checking. It was just that finishing touch...
Not saying it was bad, for a 2 star hotel.
Chain hotel in Netherlands

This hotel located in Bergen - Noord Holland. Bergen is a very nice area in my opinion, easy access with bus from Alkmaar bus station.
I've spent some days there and have been visited the beach, the lake (Gestmerambacht) and city centre (in walking distance). If you want to do cycling, you can rent the bikes from the hotel (last time it was €10/day).
Room was ok, not too big but not small either. It's clean and well maintained. No air conditioning in the room, sometimes it felt too warm inside. Shower room was small but it's ok and comfortable enough.
The hotel has variety choices of breakfast, breads, cheese, fruits, yoghurt, cereals, juices, coffee, tea, egg, etc...
You can find plenty of restaurants as well in the city centre and some of them has great food!
Would love to try another Fletcher Hotel in my next trip to The Netherlands.
End of May

Last weekend in may it is very popular to spend some time in Holland, so we all leave Germany and this time we were very lucky because found this nice hotel in the very cozy city of Bergen close to the Northern sea and we had also great weather. One thing you can't buy for money. The suite (junior) was nice and plenty of room, a nice veranda, clean and comfortable bed. I missed a fridge for the drinks,- but the restaurant is in the hotel, so you can get a cold beer at any time of the day.
