Stayed here for just one night after a Borneo tour with my wife. It is an incredible luxury hotel without the pretention. Friendly staff, great food and an upmarket atmosphere.
We stayed on the 24th floor, and the view overlooking the harbour was beautiful.

Positive - Only nice hotel in Sandakan.
Negatives -
Room that smells of stale cigarette smoke.
Thread bare towels.
Bad wifi service from room.
Basic coffee and tea in the room.
Poor house keeping standards.
Danger - the area surrounding the hotel is a busy local pedestrian thorough fare that is connected to the hotel. The hotel rooms can be easily reached by the lifts by anyone not staying at the property.
The hotel pool is badly maintained ie the pool filters were clogged by leaves and rubbish.
The pool is not chlorinated well and this presents a high vulnerability for guests contracting infections from the water.
Tip - DO NOT USE the taxi drivers who are based at the front of the hotel as they are scammers and work on a commission from the tourist attractions. They will try and scam and offer a 'good daily deal' to visit the tourists sites and then take you to placers that are not worth the visit ie Sun Bear and Labuk Bay Monkey Sanctuary.

Location. Excellent, on waterfront, near shops.
Check-in. Ok. Staff on check in and out were friendly and did their job.
Breakfast. If you can't find something you like, then you might be hard to please. The manager and staff made sure we were happy, and we were. Egg station, pancakes, Chinese, English, fruit, bread and very nice to see there was Dairy free and Gluten free food, well-signed.
Room. This was our area of disappointment. No iron, no hairdryer, only one cup (to be fair, our daughter and her husband were in the next room and they said theirs was clean and fully-equipped). The major issue was the cleanliness. The floor had not been washed, and looked the same when we left three days later. There was dirt, paper, human hair and a discarded battery on the floor. There was a hand towel which stayed crumpled on the floor under the hand basin for the whole three days. There was fluff and hair in the bath, stains on both quilt covers. Large stains on carpet.
I tactfully drew the young lady on the counter aside and explained the poor condition of the room. As we checked in late in the day, I said the following morning would suffice for a proper clean. It did not happen.
Cleanliness matters to me. I don't feel comfortable sleeping and showering in other people's dirt. This could easily be fixed by staff training, a room cleaning checklist and spot checks by a supervisor.
Club. Staff were lovely. Service anywhere in the hotel takes a while, but here they were better, thoughtful, friendly. Very small executive club area, but with a good view. Basic nibbles, and only 2 small drinks allowed during the short hour and a half happy hour time.
Free internet if you stay in an executive room.
Apart from breakfast, the only other food we ordered was a pizza. It took a fair while to come but it was tasty.
Shower accessibility. Shower head was good, but there is a wide step into the bath to access the shower. There is a handrail on the wall, but caution is advised. It is awkward and slippery.
Over all our stay was good but would be so much better with cleanliness addressed.

Quiet township, low density of tourists and with not much to do (aside from sight-seeing), presents a great opportunity to relax...in a sub-3 star hotel. Great views of the ocean but there are no beaches to be found. Hotel was not the best (service, cleanliness, buffet choices, etc.) if compared to other Four Points in bigger cities and this is probably due to the lack of tourists in the city. Seafood was fresh and affordable, dried goods (seafood - anchovies, cuttlefish, salted fish, etc.) was also fresh and cheap. Hotel is located next to the market where you can buy these dried goods. Do note, choice of restaurants are limited and can be challenging to find any decent food places.

This hotel is a bit worn around the edges but is quite adequate and good value. Definitely take a sea view room as the views are superb. The location is quite convenient. The receptionist provided very good advice on what to see and where to eat in Sandakan. Breakfast was a bit of a bun fight but you won't go hungry. The rooftop pool looks nice but we didn't try it. Comfortable beds and good airconditioning. Internet was on the (very) slow side.
