A so called Boutique home where you are forced to pay for "Self-service"
Sidharth V on 17/08/2017 13:08
NO doubt, at the very first glance you get the feel of a boutique home, thanks to the presence of European receptionist (who has mastered the art of saying NO to every request, very politely) and aesthetically pleasing interiors. She makes sure that you pay the money(accepts only cash in a remote location that does'nt have an ATM in a 3Km radius approx ) and then denies every complimentary service that any normal hotel(or Boutique Home) offers.
"Can we transfer money through paytm/Mobikwik"
"No, we dont accept paytm"
"Can we have tea served to our room?"
"No, you have to make it yourself at the kitchen"
"Can we have water in our room?"
"No,you can come and drink water, downstairs"
(I mean, Seriously?? Every time we have to drink water, should we have to come down and climb stairs?? Really??)
"Can you send someone to transfer the luggage to our room?"
"No, we don't have anyone to do that" (smiles)
The above is the actual conversation between the receptionist and me. She even went on to the extent to hold my ID proof with her till I cleared the balance amount...!
The food charges are ridiculously high and food preparation takes a lot of time, despite ordering in advance. And yes, before we left, she made sure to pursue us for a "kind" donation to her ashram which conducts Yoga classes.
(The place charges 400rs/hour for yoga..! and 600Rs/hr for meditation..!)
Cozy comfy option for short vacation
PrachiWagh on 23/04/2017 10:51
The rooms are clean and comfortable. The environment/decor is calm and soothing.
Private bathroom is attached. It is located at short distance from market so you need vehicle to commute. Breakfast is complimentary. It lacks amenities like TV, room service, hot kettle for tea/coffee in room like in a hotel. So if you are looking for short peaceful stay for a limited budget, this is the place.

What's good
Rooms are cozy and comfortable. Option of attached or common bathroom as per your budget.
What's not good
Expected hotel amenities like TV or free tea/coffee is not there. You have to pay for coffee or tea. Staff is little stiff in English but it does not hamper conversation.
What to do
Book online. Check in as soon as you reach and then take off for ghat or Ram Jhula which is walking distance. No shops or restaurant around the hotel.

Ganga Vatika a peaceful place for a short vacation. Room is very clean & tidy. Located at a height, you need to have your vehicle to reach. Maintained by the monks, which creates a lovely and peaceful ora in the room. Located in a residential and safe area.
Great concept and location...

I found ganga vatika using Air B&B and when I visited the site it sounded perfect. When we arrived it looked awesome but took over an hour for a room to be ready. After that the host was nowhere to be found! We had their WhatsApp numbers but no one ever answered or responded to our request for services. Outside of that the room was clean and the location was great for getting access to what rishikesh has to offer, but secluded enough to provide a peaceful backdrop. The beds were a little hard, but that seemed par for the course for my experience in India. I would stay again, and refer it to others, but caution, not expect to take advantage of the Therapeutic Spa services or food services offered. For an affordable, clean, safe, and convenient place in Rishikesh I say yes.
