This summer in July, my family and I stayed at this hotel for two nights before continuing our travel. When we opened the door to our rooms we were surprised how fine the rooms were and the toilet too. It's a very clean place, the beds are good and well smelling. I've experienced ***hotels not being like the pictures they have on their websites, but this was ... perfect! Definitely recommendable for anyone! Dogs are allowed too. By the way.. the view is WOW!!

I have been staying in Abtenau for the past 35 years, 34 of those years staying at Gasthaus Traunstein. When we first began coming to Abtenau Maria and Christian Pendl were our hosts. The hosts we have now is Franz (Maria and Christians son) and his wife Angelika. I love the Traunstein and Abtenau. The Gasthaus has expanded quite a lot since our first visit, the rooms are wonderful and tastefully decorated The sauna is so relaxing even if you don't ski like me. The breakfast is fantastic, with plenty of cereals, boiled eggs, meat, cheese and that tasty fresh bread every morning. The evening meal, quite a number of courses, including a taster course, lovely. The rooms for a disabled person, are excellent, and so convenient being next to the lift, I can't pass my comment with regard to the boot room, I am not allowed to ski, my husband does say the boot room is great. The views from either the front rooms or the back rooms are so, so wonderful, it is so difficult to put into words how beautiful, you must go to appreciate what I am saying. I found Abtenau 35 years ago, and haven't regretted it.

For my first-ever skiing-adventure, I chose to stay in the Traunstein Gasthaus. Right before the hotel there is a skilift but due to the extremely mild wetter, the piste was closed the day after my arrival. It did not really matter since via the hotel reception a skiing school was contacted that could give me private lessons at the nearby piste of Russbach. When later on the week I felt the need for a rental car, one word to the hotel reception staff was sufficient to arrange it all.
I usually to not take dinners in hotels due to my gluten intolerance. In this hotel I could arrange with the kitchen personell and waiters that I got food that matched my needs in this respect. Upon the day of departure, they let me keep the room for several additional hours to accomodate my luggage. My only little discomfort was the bed being attached to the wall so that I could not move it the way I like most. But in general, this hotel is clearly a place where I like to come back one day - in winter of summer since beside skiing, there is soo much to enjoy in the region!

The location (very close to many sights) is great, right at the bottom of the slopes. Our rooms (one double, one single) were clean and spacious, comfortable and luckily already heated in October.
However there is an awful smell of the mixture of smoke and cooking everywhere in the building as the lobby serves as a smoking area.
In spite of the information previously given, the wifi doesn't work properly. In the rooms there is absolutely no reception, but the signal is very week in the lobby as well.
About the breakfast: the selection is fine, but the amounts a so little that we were almost ashamed to take all the food to our table. Just as an example there was one half apple sliced up for all the guests. They replace the empty containers, but still.
What I do not recommend is eating in the restaurant. Food is acceptable, but don't expect anything special. However the service is very poor, staff was anything but helpful.

The Hotel is OK, not shining, but good. Location is very good. Close to many attractions. Close to the lift and in the summer, there is a very nice toboggan run just beside hotel. Mini golf belonging to the hotel is very handy, and many more.. I liked the rooms also - clean and spacious. The service, though, is not good - less than average. Some personal is ok, but some suffer from real unbearable attitude, several times we were forced to appeal to managers to achieve what we wanted. Which brings me to the next point - the food. The Food is mostly not bad, but we missed the amount and variety of vegetables, which were very important for us. When we asked to add, we were replied that this is it. It was so sad... :( Only when we asked manager to assist, we were server with some tiny addition of those. In general, we were scared to contact working personal in order not to get rudely treated.
