We spent 3 nights in this hotel and couldn't have been more pleased. The staff especially Lotte on the front desk and Djeff as the self-proclaimed "president" of the hotel had great recommendations for restaurants and activities that made our visit so much more complete. Situated right on the river in the old town, we could walk out the back door and start our tour immediately. Ghent is a charming, historical town with great restaurants. Most tour books will tell you to hotel in Brussels (large, busy city) and visit Bruges and Ghent from there. We would highly suggest staying in quaint Ghent and visiting Brussels and Bruges from there. If you do as we did you can't find a better place to stay than this Marriott.

Situated in the heart of the city in an historic building along the river Leie, it's not only an hotel. You are also welcome in the afternoon for having a drink or taste some of the fancy pastry. We just popped in in the late afternoon. In a stunning lobby enjoying a very good cup of coffee served by a charming lady ( who's name was Hilde) what else do you need to have a wonderful afternoon ?

Loved staying in this hotel! Was very clean, staff was friendly. We were able to explore quite a bit of Gent on foot: shops, restaurants, attractions. Be sure to walk the canal once it's dark as it's beautiful with the lights! I would however, find someone else to eat. The Midtown grill had lousy service and high priced average food but that's a separate review. I'd recommend this hotel!

Hotel was flawless! Service impeccable and everything was spot on!
Ate twice in the Midtown Grill restaurant. It is a little pricey but you get what you paid for! Both times I had the carpaccio starter which was clearly great! I ate both the lamb and fillet main courses. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted great! The potato gratin was seasoned well adding to the flavour of the overall dish. The dessert is a must too!
Highly recommend visiting the hotel and restaurant and will definitely stay here again!

Stayed for 3 nights at the Marriot.
Hotel is in a great location – central for bars, canals, tourist sights, shops, very quiet as no major roads around it.
We changed rooms as the 1st one (top floor) had sealed windows – if you want an opening window, they only open up to floor 3. Staff were very helpful accommodating this for us quickly, and had also allocated us a top floor room in the first place as that was what we requested.
The room was spacious with large bathroom, and lots of storage. Very quiet room, and comfortable large bed, and huge selection of TV channels, plus Smart TV.
Very clean everywhere, reception area / bar is a nice open plan space.
Breakfast was great – everything on offer and plenty of it, and in a nice room with canal views.
The only small downside was the toiletries – very minimal supply. In a 3 night stay they only supplied 2 very small shower gel bottles for 2 guests – seemed a bit deliberately cost cutting. Also no extras like cotton wool pads, which for the high end price I would have expected. Overall hotel is very good hence 5 stars from us, but small touches like this make it extra special.
Also, the mini bars are all empty – you have to collect items from reception and charge them to your room – again seems a bit like cost cutting / distrustful, but didn't affect our stay as we would generally not use a mini bar.
Those minor points aside, I would recommend the hotel as rooms are very good, and location great.
