What People are saying

Should be cleaner

Mama Sally is friendly. She picked up us from the airport. We thought this pick up was free because we did not request it, and she did not tell us anything relating to the fee. To our surprise, we were charged NZ$25 per person after that. Actually we don't care to pay this pickup service if we were told earlier - just a little bit uncomfortable with their practice. The unit was big, and have decent hot water. But it really needs regular cleaning. At least three geckoes in my room - on the other hand, they help with eating mosquitos. I should thank them for giving me a good sleep without bugs.

It is not a beachside property, so please don't expect any views.

No breakfast, no internet access, even no signal for TV. However, we can see many many bright stars in the evening, that's a bonus.

ok but a bit sticky

Queen was very friendly but the place needed a good clean as felt a bit grimy in places - no bugs to report apart from some friendly geckos! Didn't fancy the pots and pans. Garden's were nice but the disused swimming pool suggests this place needs a face-lift to restore it's former beauty

Very welcoming but a bit sticky

The Queen was amazing - so friendly. The bungalows were spacious and fine for a few days, but a clean here and there would have made all the difference. didn't fancy using any of the plates or pans. table, floor and surfaces were a bit sticky although not sure whether that was because it was rainy season. No bugs to report, just a couple of friendly geckos.

Beautiful and Serene Rustic Lodging I called home

I travelled to Aitutaki as part of a research project in May of 2015. I lived there for one month, which is a considerably long time for any traveler as the island is very local, small, and remote.

Tutai, the owner of Gina's Garden Lodges (named after her daughter, short for Georgina) is a perfectly pleasant lady and helpful resource on the island of Aitutaki. I find it bone chilling to read any negative comments about her personality and hospitality because Tutai was my second mother when I travelled alone to the South Pacific from Florida, USA as a college student barely 20 years old.

She and her husband Des (a born Englishman) brought me water, movies, and other bits and bobs to help me both pass my time and keep myself comfortable. She picked me up in her Land Rover on multiple occasions just to take me somewhere to help me with my research. Sometimes she just checked in to make sure I was ok.

The lodging was basic, but quite comfortable and outfitted. I cooked most of all my meals so the kitchen worked for me. The geckos were just a reminder that I was in Polynesia. My room was always clean and stocked with soap, towels, and blankets.

The garden atmosphere is absolutely beautiful. Tropical foliage fills the landing and chickens roam about. I enjoyed strolling around the garden picking star fruit and taking pictures of all the tropical flowers.

Nothing is very far away in Aitutaki. I highly recommend renting a scooter as the islands traffic is at a minimum and a car means exiting the open air that makes the island so peaceful. I drove around Aitutaki like a local for a month and was never more than ten minutes away from a beach.

Gina's is located on a quiet road on the eastern part of the island. It is close to a wharf where you can sit and look at the lagoon. It's a perfect location if you want serenity as it is off the main road where most all other lodging on Aitutaki is located.

Aitutaki itself is the most beautiful, confusing, quiet, and humble one could ever imagine. The lagoon and outer islands are quite literally out of magazines, reality TV, and desktop screensavers.

I have travelled to multiple Carribean islands and Rarotonga and Aitutaki's lagoon is the more beautiful spot for snorkeling, sailing, or just cruising. It's complemented by Aitutaki's uncommercialized nature and true sense of local tradition and culture.

I can't wait to plan another trip to Aitutaki and until then compare all other tropicals to my Polynesian adventure there.

Unique Setting Among Papaya & Coconut Trees

Gina's Garden Lodges are a good alternative to the resort setting and offer an glamping experience. The 4 cabins are each located at the end of a quiet dirt road in a rural area of Aitutaki and offer tranquility and peace. While we are travelers who tend to stay in independent, budget, small, family run properties, there were some items which were not ideal. While the cost is a great value, the amount of critters inside the cabin was intimidating. Even with keeping the door closed, there managed to be lots of insects of multiple varieties and geckos and lizards galore. If you want to get back to nature and enjoy glamping, this place is for you.
